What have you seen people do that was too much like they were home?

Can't anyone on these darn boards give someone the element of kindness? The snarkiness of some of the replies I see all over these boards just makes me absolutely crazed. Yes the info is there, but newbies may be just a tad overwhelmed with all the DVC information they need to absorb on top of just being plain excited by being in WDW. Good grief just give it a break. Whatever happened to kind words without sarcasm or snarky attacks?

We're not talking about someone eating food in one of the lounges. We're talking about people leaving their trash outside their villa in the hallway. That's something that pigs do, not guests in a timeshare or hotel. How difficult is it to ask what to do with the trash?

When we had a GV at OKW, we brought nine teen agers with us. I went upstairs to check on the girls one morning and was floored by the mess they had made. I was so embarrassed that I refused to the housekeepers come upstairs and I brought them the used towels and I took out the trash myself. I had made a rule about keeping the rooms relatively neat and that rule wasn't followed.

So last trip for any of these kids.

And I do the same. Very neat. Yay us!! :cheer2: I'm just saying to give a new DVC member the benefit of the doubt without sniping. Our communications with each other can just be a bit kinder. The world is nasty enough without us bringing it to supposedly happy boards.

Excuse me, but the information about the trash rooms is in the information given to the guests when they arrive. Would you just put your trash outside your front door at home? At least call the front desk or housekeeping and ask instead just dumping outside the front door.

I honest to goodness do not ever recall getting this information at check in! I know there are trash rooms and usually will wander around following the signs posted on the walls that indicate which way the trash room is. Where is this information?

I really wish they would make a point of mentioning trash when people check in or leave an info sheet in the room.

I vote for an Info sheet left on the kitchen counter! Additionally, and a separate topic to be discussed elsewhere, include a sheet to report any issues found with the unit. (with all the marketing ads for pillows and room discounts they leave in the room, surly something practical wouldn't be too much to ask)

Actually, it was a very long time ago and I think the reason I did it was because I noticed that someone else had done so and I got the impression that it was standard practice. Please don't flame me because I admit I made a mistake. It happens! :)

Aw come on now. Your a pig because you leave your trash by your door? I would think you were a pig if you left it over flowing or threw it over the balcony and I have seen things thrown from the balcony of Bay Lake.
FYI while at Bay Lake I came across three bags of trash in the hall way...housekeeping put them there while they were working on something in the room. I treat OKW and Bay Lake like they are mine, because they are, but I am quick to remember that I am not at my home and should act appropriately in public!
Name calling never solved anything..and I don't know where the trash rooms are at Bay Lake sorry.

How about a required infomercial, like on the airplane! :lmao: While joking, it would be a good channel to compete with Stacey! :rotfl:

I have suggested this many times, something cute with Goofy about being a good DVC member. Take out your trash and show where the room is located, quiet voices, smoke in designated areas, clean up your spills, etc.

I think it could really help and be entertaining.

These are funny!

Not a great one but I remember passing by an open door at VWL one time and catching of a glimpse inside at what was probably the messiest room I have ever seen.

It seemed like every surface had something on it.

It looked like something out of Hoarders.

DH and I just looked at each other and said "Who brings that much stuff on vacation????"

My folks. My mom is a hoarder, dad has given up and just goes with it. It takes approximately five minutes for every surface in their villa to be covered, and is why we will no longer share a villa or hotel with them if we are traveling together. She does it at my house too, and it drives me crazy.
I would say it was them, but they have never stayed at VWL.

We have seen plenty of smokers, and trash in the hallway during our dvc stays. Can't think of anything too odd we have seen though.

Throwing their chewed gum out on the ground. Not so much at the resorts as at the parks. Magic Kingdom walkway to the entrance has a real problem with used gum all gunked on the hot concrete. Too bad a waste can isn't sought out and used.

:confused3

FWIW.... I believe that there should be a trash room on each floor of a DVC resort... I feel real bad when I have to take out the trash and on the way down to the first floor the elevator stops and 10 people heading to the park cram into the elevator with me and my bag of trash! By the end of our last trip I would wait til 2am to take out the trash so as not to inconvenience the other guests.

We just returned from a week's stay at the VWL. On two different occasions my husband and I saw children relieving themselves just off the path near trees. Well within view and with a parent standing there with them, not to mention a bathroom just around the corner through the backdoor to the Villas (they were near the quiet pool). Another time we saw a grown man doing this as well (not near the pool this time)!!

This, along with 3 bully boys at the pool slide, tarnished our first stay at the Lodge. My 6 year old son mentioned there were some bigger boys at the top of the slide who were being bossy. Just after that my 4 year old daughter came down the slide in tears and unable to speak for a few minutes she was so upset. My husband took flight to the top of the slide to find the boys. When she finally calmed down a bit she said they were pushing her and being mean. The boys were between 10 and 13. There was no lifeguard present at the top of the slide when this happened and the lifeguards were lackadaisical in getting up there to resolve the problem when we complained. After several complaints the boys were told to leave the slide area for a half hour – mainly after my husband told them if they didn’t get up there and do something about the boys then he was going to.

Wow.... just wow! How you refrained from saying something to the young and not so young men using the landscaping as their personal toilet I will never know. You have more restraint that I do. Not only would I have said something I would have let them know I was reporting them - and then done so. That is just disgusting and with the adult male - indecent exposure.

So sorry your children were bullied on the slide. I really hope you give VWL/WL another shot - we have stayed there numerous times as it is our home resort and have never run into anything like that - and hopefully we never do either.

Thanks DVC Jen. We will probably stay there again someday. I'm not holding what happened against the resort. I would imagine that stuff could probably happen at most any resort, but the relieving part is probably easier there vs. Beach Club given all the trees and woods. ;) Not that it was funny by any means. I was shocked that a parent would allow that to happen, and especially at such a nice resort. I think at any nice resort you expect a little more class from the guests than you'd get at a Motel 6.

I still get incredibly upset about the slide incident when I think about it. :furious: I'm hoping she'll forget about it in time. We should have sought out the boys parents, but at the time we let it go after they were booted from the slide and chose to focus on making the rest of the pool time happy for her and my son. The boys said their parents were at the pool bar. I wish we had looked for them to let them know what their kids were doing.

Too funny! DH and I have joked for years that some of the folks we see must be staying at a hotel with no mirrors as no one could look in a mirror and still go out looking like that! :rotfl2:

Our fav is the 300 lb women in bikinis at the pool! I am pooh sized too and wouldn't dare!:worship:

Hi there

we too were newbies (first time using DVC & our points)and left our bag of trash at our door on a few occasions, thinking this was the normal thing to do :sad2:.
So at Aulani this year, we noticed the trash room and the light went on  now we realise there are trash rooms, but we never saw them at BLT.

So question is...what floors are they on @ BLT?

Thanks
:thumbsup2

Last month we stayed at Vero Beach (love that place!), we had a small problem with these older kids trying to smart off at my youngest who was doing nothing. These kids were shocked when I confronted them and sorted them out. My wife teaches ESE middle school and I teach at risk students in high school so we have no problem sorting kids out of ALL ages. We can smell'em!

I can't remember what floors, but we were on the 2nd and couldn't find one, so DH went down to the desk to ask, and the CM didn't know either and told him to just leave it outside the door! I wandered around until I finally found one, but I now understand why people may put it outside the door -- because maybe they were told to! I don't know why in each room there isn't a directory for the locations of trash rooms, laundry, etc. Seems like an easy thing to do.

we just bought into DVC. During the presentation when the housekeeping schedule was explained, we asked about garbage. Our guide actually told us to put it outside the door. We would have done that thinking we were doing the right thing, not knowing we were offending or being looked down upon by others by doing so.

We will make sure to seek out the garbage rooms to avoid any nasty grams. :thumbsup2
