What HAT do you wear to Disney?

I hate HATS, I've just never been a hat person. :confused3

But....I really need to wear a hat when I am going to be outside a lot. (I had squamous cell carcinoma 2 years ago on my nose.) So, for the last 2 years I have bought over 15 different hats, some of them are ok....but most of them are just for backyard use and I wouldn't go anywhere with them. I like the look of the more bucket style hats but, they don't give a lot of sun protection.
I also, don't feel like a big huge wide brim hat is functional for Disney.

So, I was hoping with all you lovely Disney fans that someone has found the "best" hat to wear to Disney. Everyone seems to have their favorite shoes for Disney, or favorite bag to bring to the park, or best stroller for Disney....so I thought this would be a perfect question for you all!!

If you have a link to a picture that would be awesome!!

Hubby and I are going on a short trip to the world in September and I want something cute to wear:love:...I don't care for baseball hats typically.

Thanks so much for your help!!

I am also not a hat or sunglasses person. I got a Adidas ladies visor for our trip in September. I got a cheapo visor from Walmart last year and actually used it more than I thought. I like visor because they keep out the sun from my eyes / off my face, but don't make my head hot. They have some that are Climalite ones with a build in sweatband thing...that's nice too.

My is white/brown...but here is a similar one at Lids.com...

I'm with you, I'm not a hat person, and I never wear them. Hub is bald (and not entirely by choice! :rotfl2:) and prefers baseball caps. My mom, though, has also had skin cancer, on her face. She bought a sun hat from www.magellans.com It is wide brimmed and packs well.

Just look under "women's clothing," then under "sun protection."

I have bought a couple visors, also from Walmart, and kind of like them. I like that they don't make your head hot and they don't give you hat head. The one I had from walmart worked by tension, and it gave me a headache. I kind of like the one that you got from climalite. I might have to go see if I can find one at a local sporting goods store and see how it looks!:)

Thanks!

Why do you feel a large/wide brim hat would be a problem? I love them! And I just take it off once I'm indoors. And since almost every line for a ride, except for Animal Kingdom, is indoors or at least under cover, I take it off at those times (not nice to whack the next guy in line...). However, you may find something at WDW once you are there. A lot of the shops sell hats that are geared toward adults and not just the "mouse ears" variety :)

I have several WDW visors that I wear: Epcot, Caribbean Beach, a pink floral Mickey one, & also a Typhoon Lagoon one.

I get terrible hat head, and then look completely wacky when I go inside and want to take off my hat. :rotfl2: I thought if I could find something less big, I could maybe keep it on inside.

Join the club! But I figure most people look ridiculous and sometimes worse after shlepping around in the FL heat, why should I worry!? How about a straw hat with a brim, but it's not too wide? I have a few in different colors and it works well. I'm sorry I don't have a pic to post, but I haven't figured how to do it on the DIS yet.

Everyone wears hats in Disney. You can probably get a cheaper on by buying before your trip. I don't like hats either but I do wear them in WDW. We all look silly. The large wide brimmed ones are fun but I have lost them on the wedway people mover in tomorrow land, example, and various other rides when a gust of wind comes by. I like visors but every time I have used one in Disney I have ended up with a sunburn on the top of my head. Ouch!:sad2:
We make a tradition of getting our hats in disney. Whatever park we do our first day the first think we do is visity the hat store. We try all kinds and take many pictures. Then we buy our favorites. It doesn't matter how silly looking the one you choose is. That is the norm in Disney to see people walking around with all kinds of hats so you will not feel out of place no matter what you pick. Let your inner child out and just have fun. Our hat outing makes a great page layout for my scrapbooks also. :dance3:

I wear my "Grumpy" hat........from the kids. But when I'm at Disney I am definitely not Grumpy!

I look absolutely ridiculous in hats and I get horrible, horrible hat head.
I have short, fine hair and my scalp burns.
I've tried big floppy hats while in Disney but when it came time to take it off for a show/dinner etc., I would race to bathroom and try to fix it my hair. But it wouldn't help because my hair was flat and stuck to my head.

Finally, on our last trip, I decided I didn't care anymore and I found a nice baseball hat. I wore it everywhere and even kept it on when indoors (to avoid hat head embarrassment). The good thing about baseball hats is that they don't obstruct anyone's view if you keep it on while indoors at a show.

I think I want a pink floral Mickey Visor. Where do they sell them?

They can be hard to find, but I've seen them in several gift shops in Epcot....Mousegear had them earlier this month.

What's funny is...I bought one last summer for $17.00 & then bought another this past month...the price of the 2nd one was $15.95.

A few years ago I bought a visor at Disney. It is the one that has a black band and the visor part is made out of straw. I love it. It is easily packable and doesn't get crushed! As of this past Feb they still sell it. I also see they sell something simular at Walmart especially now that it is summer.
I have packed mind in my luggage for the past couple trips and it travels well since it is not crushable.

I too am not a hat person but this visor is great!

Another big plus is that if you take the visor off, the end of the visor can be threaded into a belt loop to be carried around and keep your hands free.

I wear a Vineyard Haven from Watership Trading Companie. They have quite a few different styles, all designed for good sun protection.

(The people on the sailboat in the top menu photo are wearing Vineyard Havens.)

I'd stay away from baseball caps and visors if I were you -- if you've had skin cancer once already you are a likely candidate to get it again, and the neck is a high-risk area.

As to your hair, just style it for a hat during the day. It's dark inside most attractions, anyway. You can futz with it if you do a table-service lunch, but otherwise I wouldn't bother -- none of these people will ever see you again.

You are so right, and I have left my hair a longer style to help keep my ears and neck covered for that very reason. I am ready for a new shorter cut, but will definately have to be diligent about sunscreen around my neck and ears.

Thanks for bringing that up. :flower3:

I think I wouldn't really care about this so much if it was just the family going to Disney, but it is just my DH and I celebrating our anniversary:love: and we have some special meals planned and I just don't want to have nappy hat head hair. I know he won't care, as long as we are spending time alone together in our favorite place.

Thanks everyone, for the links and ideas.

The first time I was at Disney after my skin cancer, I thought oh great I will buy a Disney Hat! One of them, my DH now wears, and the other shrunk when it got rained on.

Hi People..

I'm the same and like hats but also use it to cover up a patch.. I'm planning to wear baseball caps but worried they will just fly off on rides?

Any tips?

Thanks
