What happens when TS payments change...

My family is going from December 29-January 9. I know there have been rumors about character buffets increasing to 2TS in 2017.

My question is how does this work?

My family almost exclusively does character buffets for breakfast for our TS meals. We are picky eaters and find that they meet our needs. That being said, there's no way we could use the dining plan if there is an increase like that.

We will be on the 2016 plan well into 2017 so I wasn't sure if that would come into play. Also. How far in advance does anyone think we would find out as I would need to cancel my plan and possibly reorganize my FP+.

I don't know what you mean by that, but I don't believe it is true. I could be mistaken though. I think you would be on one dining plan 12/29-12/31, and another 1/1-1/9. I think Disney has this happen every year, vacations crossing the calendar year, and their computers correctly figure the amounts per calendar year. I don't believe they allow you to have 2016 rates and entitlements just because your vacation started in 2016, but carries over into 2017.
I think you will know well in advance. Probably by late Sept-mid Oct, not 180 days out. But it could be later than that. Still time to cancel the dining plan and reorganize your FP+. Hope that helps.

I was told by a management CM that if the 2017 included 2 snacks like the UK one, my plan would not as it would be under the 2016 plan.

That's why I came here to see if anyone has experience going year to year with a plan and how it works.

I think this is probably going to be a wait and see. Since pkg prices are coming out next week (June 21!), let's hope they include any changes to the dining plan. IF they do make the character dining 2 TS credits, that will be the payment for anyone, no matter when they purchased their plan, on the date that they say it is in effect. So that part of your question can be answered. If they make the change to the QSDP that takes away the dessert, but gives you an extra snack, that will make for an interesting discussion as to how your credits will be/can be used. It hasn't been that long ago since QSDP went from 2 snacks to 1 snack, but I cannot remember how they worked that for a trip that bridged the two different plans.

When we were there over the holidays in 2007-2008, the 2008 plan dropped the appetizer and no longer included the tip. Since we purchased the 2007 dining plan, we kept the entitlements of the 2007 plan the first few days of 2008 that we were there.

I do not know if the same would apply in this situation but I thought I would share our experience.

There's no way of knowing until Disney tells us. We may know something next week with 2017 packages, and we may not. One thing is for sure, if they do go to 2 TS credits and the cost does go up to the rumored $60, I bet there WILL be availability for your dates!

It looked like the ones that we saw on the site before it changed back to 1 TS were lunch and dinner. I would not use 2 credits, nor would I pay $60 for luch or dinner characte meals, so it would not matter to me at that point, however, I bet you would be safe with Breakfast. Hopefully.
