What happens when Shades of Green, Disney military resort has no more vacancy?

Try to get a room at a Disney resort at the military discount? You'd have to call the reservation line to check availability.

Our daughter and family checked in one time and they were booked at SOG they took them over to the Contemporary.

I had a friend once that checked in and she was put at Caribbean Beach.

I have stayed at SOG a few times and just stayed there in August. Depending on what your relationship to the military is (I.e. active military vs. DoD vs. retired) you may get better deals at standard Disney hotels. Just remember when comparing prices the SOG doesn’t charge tax. At different times of year you can get better deals with military discounts at the normal Disney resorts especially when you can factor in free Disney Dining Plan. Also don’t forget that at SOG you can’t use Magical Express or Disney Dining Plan. You also only get a 30day window on Fast Pass and no free MagicBands.

You do get extended magical hours and some of the largest individual rooms on all of Disney property.

There is an entire thread on here detailing all aspects of SOG.

I'm active duty and have NEVER stayed at SOG. It's just not "Disney" enough for us. The military discounts from Disney don't make it cheaper, but it softens the blow.

We have stayed both and love love love SoG, just as much as WL or BRV. We have not stayed in a few years now but it use to be if you try to book at SoG and they are all booked up you could get up to a 40% discount at other Disney resorts, but since most Disney resorts under the salute program offers up to a 40% discount I don't think they advertise it that way anymore. If you try to book SoG and can't or if you get there and there is no room, they won't just say oh well, they will give you room on Disney property, usually in the price range of a moderate bunt they can use all three categories, I've heard of people getting poly, contemporary, CSR, SSR, POP and POR.

Oh as for the price, you really need to crunch numbers, for us we save if we need two rooms. But when we just need one room, we don't really save all that much, first you don't get magic express so you need to figure ride. To and from airport. If you rent a car you have to pay $15 a night for parking at hotel, but then you have to pay to park at Disney theme parks also, so another $20 or so a night that's $35 a night added on just for parking. So when you add all tit for tat it averages out to a room in the price range of a moderate hotel, and there you get all the perks, 60 day fast pass, free parking, free magic express, dining plans and all.
