What happens if the ride stops working,

while you're riding it? Do they give you a fastpass to ride it later? Or if it starts working again quite soon, do you stay on and re-ride immediately?

My OH is considering, pondering, debating and thinking quite seriously about whether he will give up his lifelong fear of rollercoasters and try out, gasp, something with a loop. He loved BTM and wants to take the next step. Having heard that malfunctions sometimes leave riders stuck half way through a ride, he has been reassured by me that there are failsafes built into the rides to stop them stopping while riders are upside down. Now, I have no idea whether that's right or even possible (I was assuming gravity would take over), but it would be good not to be caught out in a half lie, should the worst come to the worst. Back me up here guys.

If you are in the queue with a current fastpass you get to come back later and se the out of time fastpass.

Not sure what happens if you are actually on the ride

I don't think it would be physically possible for it to get stuck in the middle of a loop.
crush and rock'n'rollercoaster are maybe better for non-adrenalin-junkies than indiana jones. for me they are anyway.

Last week I finally screwed up the courage to ride Crush. On my 5th and last ride, I finally screwed up the courage to ride FACING FORWARDS.

We reached the top of the lift hill and I had my eyes firmly shut as always. Just as we reached the top, CLANG! and we stopped for a good ten minutes...

I did open my eyes once only to see the ceiling close about me, and in front of me - nothing. We were perched on the very edge, ready to plunge into the abyss.

The French couple on the back of our shell had been calling out 'help' periodically; there was only one announcement in French only, lights stayed off, and music continued to play.

Finally after a good ten minutes without warning we plunged off the cliff into the EAC. :scared1: We all got off the ride; no interaction with the CMs. Exiting, I had to stop and catch my breath, and the couple came and chatted with me for a few minutes.

No FP, no acknowledgement from the CMs. But that is my experience in America as well during my hundreds of visits. I only recall receiving a FP at Space Mountain in CA as the ride broke down just as we were loading. But I have been stuck for long periods on the ride, sometimes just after loading, and have been offloaded rides, with no offer of FP.

It seems to be a random thing as CMs don't have a stack of FP available and need to have a supervisor come to distribute the passes.

I dont know the answer but honestly would love to know it, that's one of my fears too:scared1:

Well we've been stuck on BTM, Indiana and Phantom Manor! On BTM we were over on the island stuck on an upwards climb - clank clank clank stop.....on that occassion someone came round in another coaster and pushed ours up the hill and over it and off it went again. We've also been in the queue when the ride has had to be shut down and there is no offer of coming back at a later time. Their priority has to be to fix the ride and ensure its safety.

Indiana we had to climb out of the carriages and walk back along the side of the ride and out. But thats a rattley ride anyway - if you've got a bad neck its not for you.

Phantom Manor longest time we got stuck was just as we got to the head in the jar - there is a message come on. Something like "Playful spooks have paused the ride - please stay in your car and we will be on our way soon". We were stuck there for 10 mins but quite often because of the loading set up for this ride it tends to stop start.

If he wants to do a loop and get it out of the way as fast as possible I'd suggest Rock and Roller coaster as its the quickest ride with the loop - also one of the smoothest.

I've also been stuck on the Big One at Blackpool...thinking about it maybe I'm jinxed!

We got stuck on the phantom manor ride as well, right by the talking head in a jar in fact too. Buzz lightyear ride stopped a few times.

Yes - I've been on Phantom Manor too when it's been 'stopped' - and they've played the "Playful Spooks" message.

Buzz also has a similar message. When we rode it last week it brokedown mid-way - after numerous "your space cruisers have been temporarily halted" messages in French and English eventually a new message was played which stated that our mission had been abandoned!.

Shortly after the building lights went on and the CMs came thru the attraction reseting the XP-41's to a 'straight' position and then releasing the 'shields' so that we could get out - we then had to walk out of the attraction. Sadly we were only on the first scene, so didn't have far to walk. Mind you, whilst the attraction was still functioning - but out movement halted I did find a target that was giving a nice score - and fairly quickly got the top score of 999,999!.

Having said that the CMs really weren't saying much (anything) and leaving it all to the automated announcements - and no, no free FP's for when it was working - if we wanted to try it again when working we were expected to queue again.

Regards

Phantom Manor and Buzz often stop. They do this as it's the only way to board a disabled person onto the ride.

I've been on Pirates when it has stopped due to a technical error. They turned the lights on and a cast member came out the door to tell us that everything was ok but it might take a while to get it back running. They then turned the lights up and I was hoping we'd get to walk off the boat and through the back rooms because I love stuff like that. Unfortunately it started working again after 15mins. We were stuck for 20mins in total.

I wouldn't have minded if we'd stopped somewhere interesting but it was at the bottom of the main lift where there is nothing to see.

I'd forgotten that we've been on Its A Small World too when a teenager 2 boats in front who had been messing around all the way stood up and was trying to grab at things overhead (think it was as we went under Tower Bridge). As they have cameras in the roof there it stopped straight away and there was a security annoucement which although in French was enough to make them sit back down - there was a member of security waiting for the boat as it came to the exit...!

Whenever we get stuck on Phantom Manor, it's always right by the knocking door!!! :rotfl2: I just wish if we must get stuck it would be somewhere else, but no, it's always in exactly the same place!! :rotfl:

:offtopic: Got stuck on the TTA in WDW once for over an hour ~ luckily we had our ponchos with us and it was so cold we had to put them on to keep warm. :cold: A great camaraderie developed with all the guests and we sang camp-fire songs to while away the time ~ apart from one lady who decided she wouldn't wait ~ she was last seen wandering through Space Mountain and my youngest DD reckons she is still in there today! :rotfl2: Eventually we were rescued but no fastpasses ~ think it's best just to treat things like this as an inconvenient adventure! :rotfl:

I was there last week, got back yesterday and am missing it terribly :(

Anyways.. Crush broke down as I was queuing up loads were walking out.. so did I.

we tried again later on when it was working again.... got up 30 seconds in and it broke down. There was an announcement in french and then English, the lights powered on.. and within 5 minutes an assistant walked by and gatheres us in one corner to announce what had happened and gave out a re-admission ticket.

Went on it the next morning without even queuing behind one person, they sent me through the staff doors and came out by the coasters :)

I just wanted to say the same. These are no real breakdowns. I must have rode PM at least 100 times and it is very rare to have one ride without a "playfull spooks" stop. :)

i was morbidly perusing the DLP accidents page online and was reassured to note that mostly when someone is hurt it's because they were being very silly indeed, or were ill anyway and also that all the Disney parks seem to reassess operating procedure when they do make a mistake.
i'm sure driving a car is far scarier!

Thanks guys, I've enjoyed reading all your replies - some quite funny actually.

I'm not too worried about the rides stopping and then continuing on, even if there is a big delay. It's more the idea of waiting a long time and then not having anything for it, should the ride become technically challenged before you get to experience it properly. From what you are saying, it seems a bit of lottery whether you get a fastpass for later or not.

I'd so hate for OH to have summoned up all his courage to ride and then be deprived of it - because I am convinced that if a ride was to "strike" that he would take that as a sign from the gods that he was not destined to ride it.

I should really be inviting you all to the Single Digit Dance with me, but I am exhausted with all this planning, well....maybe just a little one:banana: .

Can't do too much dancing at my age, I need to save my energy for D I S N E Y L A N D, I feel a Yeeeee Hah coming on, but it doesn't seem right when heading to Paris - is there an equivalent for DLPR?

Awww, that's so sweet of you Elaine. Great moves - you've been practising, I can tell!

If I just lie here and kick my legs, does that count as dancing :rotfl2: ?
