What happens if I cancel

We have a stay booked at the end of September. Dec UY. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last week. I don't know what my treatment looks like yet, and won't for a couple of weeks. So I don't want to cancel yet. But what happens if you cancel a reservation more than 30 days out? I'd like to see what my treatment looks like and how I feel. We have a pretty laid back trip planned anyway, just a Halloween party, and a day at Epic.

If you cancel a reservation more than 30 days out, all the points of the reservation just go back into the UY of the reservation. That means that those points are still available for use, but they will expire in December. You still have time to bank any that are this years point by the end of July, but if any of them are borrowed or banked points you need to use them up before December.

(Because of your situation, it is possible that Member Services would give you an exception to the normal rules on a cancellation. But you would have to speak to them directly, tell them your circumstances, and then it is up to them whether they would give an exception)

Since you mentioned 30 days, I assume you know about the rules on cancellation within 30 days (i.e. points in holding).

Yes, I remembered there was something about that. I suppose I'll have to hope if we have to cancel, they will make an exception, as I doubt I'll be able to make anything work before the end of the year with just a couple months notice.

I corrected something in my original answer. Your banking window closes at the end of July, not the end of summer (That was incorrect, and also vague).

There are some other options like renting out points. Do you have banked/borrowed points in the reservation?

Hi. Good luck. Have you considered adding the insurance? It only covers MFs for points (add typical insurance like flights).
