What Happens at the Beach Club... Travels with Teens, Take Two, (PTR) 4/6 p. 29

In my last update, I had spent some time around Main Street and the Castle, taking pictures at a leisurely pace. But it was time to get my ride on. I had a 9:30 FP reservation for the 7 Dwarfs Mine Train.

I took my first steps EVER into New Fantastyland

and found… Not Mine!

The ride was down.

So, on to Plan B- Pirates!

Gimme an ARGH!

It was a walk-on and I ended up in a row by myself.

Since I was alone, I took some pictures during the ride without getting dirty looks from my family.

But they didn’t come out very well.

There was still no line when the ride was finished so I went again.

Gimme another ARGH!

Took more pictures. Same results.

I should have tried my point and shoot since I am more familiar with it and it is easier to handle.

After my second ride on Pirates, I walked past the Hall of Presidents and texted this picture and message to Mark.

j/k… Pirates

I decided I would check to see if the Mine Train was back up again.

It wasn’t.

My next FP was Peter Pan at 10:45, which was in 20 minutes.

I texted this to Mark

Not j/k. 20 min before I can do Peter Pan and too hot to go far.

Are you alone?

Yes, until lunch at 11.

I got to the boarding area, got into my own row on the boat, looked up and saw…

Tara and two of her kids, waiting to board the next boat in the same corral that I was just in.

I waved them in to join me.

It IS a Small World After All!!!

Next Up: It IS a Small World After All!!!

It IS a Small World After All!!!

.

Yes IT IS! That is too funny!

Boo for mine train being down, but yay for two rides on POC! I think the colors in your pics turned out great for pirates. It is seriously hard to find light on that ride.

What? No Hall of Presidents. Denny and I visited it in October and I promptly fell asleep. Figures!

Frustrating that mine train was down, but as always you know how to make the most of any spare time at WDW.

I love that you ran into someone you know on IASW. It doesn't get more perfect than that. Tarak and family would be the perfect group to cruise around the world with. :goodvibes

I think Pirates is one of the more challenging spots to get good pictures. The boats move just slow enough to make you think you can do it, and just fast enough to make a steady hand impossible.

Thanks for another great update.

This is the BEST picture I've ever seen of this!

Boo to the Mine Ride being down.

But yay to two rides on Pirates. I have a horrible time (even with my new camera) getting decent pictures on that ride.

And how fun that you saw Tara and her two kids and they joined you on IASMW.

Early morning Mine Train FP??? Impressive! ARGH to it being down though. pirate: I heard that happens a lot in the beginning of the day.

That's someting I don't think I've ever done and that's ride Pirates back to back. Oh wait... you probably just wanted to make it roughly the same ride time as Disneyland... :scratchin

HA too funny on Small World. It is indeed just that.

The whole encounter at IaSW cracked me up. This is not a must-do for me, so it was just by chance and circumstance (the heat) that I decided to ride. I had JUST texted Mark that I was riding alone. And then, I wasn't! :cool1:

Thank you. I so want to take a decent picture of the burning buildings in Pirates- I love that scene. And the dog/prisoners at the end. I had a chance once when our boat was stopped in a pileup and I was on the right side of the boat, but I was on probation for taking too many pictures earlier in the ride.

You know, we would actually be more likely to go to Hall of Presidents with my history-loving boys. Almost. Hard to compete with coasters.

:rotfl2:

I was not going to let the time go to waste. There is not a lack of things to do at MK.

It was a really lucky encounter. Not only that I ran into them, but that they happened to be in the exact spot that gave us the opportunity to ride together.

I was really surprised at how blurry some of the pictures were. Like you said, it seems like the boat is going very slowly.

:hyper:

Oh my gosh, THANK YOU! Actually that is the best picture of the pirate in the mist that I have taken. Not dismissing the compliment, but this shot really is largely based on lucky timing, since you have to be in the right place at the right time. The image disappears quickly, or you can be in a descending boat at the proper time to take the picture.

It was a little disappointing that the Mine Train was down. Especially when you start thinking "Is that the way today is going to go?"

I did end up with essentially an anytime Fast Pass, but I had limited time at the MK since I was returning home that evening. The ride would have to start running by noon for me to have the chance to do it on this trip.

I was so glad to ride with Tara, Thing 2 and Thing 3. (I got their names right, didn't I Tara?)

:goodvibes

Yessir, early morning FP to the Mine Train procured one week prior to the trip.

:woohoo:

I was actually secretly hoping that the standby line for the Mine Train would not be too bad that early and I could score a couple of rides in a row, but I didn't have a chance to test out that plan.

But twice on Pirates was not a bad substitution. I think I have done back-to-back on Pirates before, either if the line was non-existent or possibly if rain had just started.

DL Pirates rocks! We only had the chance to ride twice during our trip, but it really is incredible!

It's a Small World really delivered on the theme on that day!

::yes::

Hate to say it but Hall of Presidents is a great place to be on a hot afternoon in the MK, just like the Tiki-Tiki room. Sleeping is an option too!

Sometimes you get the best pictures with those point-and-shoot cameras. Simpler is better at times. Still, not bad pictures. Especially the pirate in the mist. Glad to see you scored a ride on Small World (come on, sing it with me since I'll be singing it all day now!). We usually end up walking past that ride due to the long lines we encounter. Having friends show up and join you is even better!

We had a fastpass for Seven Dwarfs on the last morning of our recent trip and the ride was down. Because we had to be on the Magical Express at 12:30pm we never did ride it that morning. Fortunately we had ridden it earlier in the week.

There is a huge "running of the bulls" to this ride at rope drop because so many people aren't able to get fastpasses for it. The stand by line fills up fast.

It IS a Small World After All!!!

Next Up: It IS a Small World After All!!!

.

It truly is. We were on IASW, too, because of the Mine Train being down. You were close with the names - it's Thing One and Thing Three. Or Amara and Liam.

I'm sure there's a way to calculate the odds that we would meet up at that specific ride at that specific time and be queued up perfectly. But the thought makes my brain ache, so I'll say they're probably pretty incredible.

The meet up was great, but I think I had just as much fun with the random encounters we had throughout the week. Which is not to say I wouldn't love to have a longer sit down with folks next August and chat over a few Sunken Treasures!

No sleeping in Disney!!! (Actually, that's unfortunately pretty much my mantra for life, but that's another story)

I love my point & shoots! They are so easy to carry and conceal. The thing that motivated me to get a big girl camera is all of the amazing pictures that my friends take at Disney or on other vacations. I still need to learn to use it properly, but I never have a chunk of time to practice.

It has probably been 5 or 6 years since I have been on IaSW. We didn't try it in DL this summer either. That's one of the things that makes it so surprising that I met someone I knew there.

:)

I'm glad you got to ride the Mine Train. It isn't something I would wait for in a long line. Actually, there's not much I will wait in line for because I can always find something else I want to do without the wait. But I was hoping that I would arrive at MK before rope drop, and have a fighting chance. I can "run with the bulls" with the best of 'em, especially solo!

But the bus did not cooperate, and the ride was down, so it didn't matter.

:cool2:

Thanks for the clarification. I'm surprised I got it wrong, because although I am terrible with names, I'm usually pretty good with numbers. :lmao:

But even being good with numbers, I do not want to try to estimate the chances of us meeting at a ride and having the stars align just perfectly for us to be able to enjoy it together.

I agree, incredible odds.

I agree, incredible odds. ;);)

Yes, it was awesome being able to randomly run into people "we know" at the parks, or the resort or Stormalong Bay.

:cheer2:

I did know a few people from our meet were at MK this morning- Nettie and her son, Janetmom and Mr.JanetMom (on Keys to the Kingdom Tour) and Tarak and her clan. But what were the actual chances that I would randomly run into someone I knew while waiting for a ride?

Better than you would think!

We were a little cramped, but I loved riding with them!

I have a series of pictures that I took on the ride, and I can add a soundtrack if you would like but I think you all know the tune.

This one was a special reminder of our recent summer trip.

After the ride, we took a picture together since if there is not photographic evidence, it didn’t happen.

I Won’t Grow Up!

Next up was Peter Pan. This is one of my favorite attractions- I love flying over the city of London and seeing the scenes from the movie. Mark and I have been fans of this ride even before the boys performed in the play a few years ago. Nate was Lost Boy Cubby and Ben was the crocodile.

:offtopic:

Is anyone else super excited about the live action version of Peter Pan that will be performed on ABC on December 4?

Because Christopher Walken!!!

******************************************************

******************************************************

As much as this ride means to us, we have an important rule about Peter Pan’s Flight.

DO NOT GO INTO THE STANDBY LINE FOR THIS ATTRACTION!!!***

The queue is hot. The queue is boring. And mostly, the wait time display is lying. Don’t believe it when it says 45 minutes. It will be an hour and feel like even more.

So we only ride this very first thing in the morning, or with a Fast Pass.

Fortunately, I had a FP and I was not afraid to use it!

***ETA: Exciting Breaking News:

I just read now about a new queue line at PP that opened TODAY in WDW that takes you through the Darling's house!

I took a couple of pictures from the queue

and a few while on the ride that were so bad I deleted them all except for this one of the golden sailing ship.

As always, the ride was magical. And short!

But that’s ok because when the ride was over, I had another exciting place to check out for the very first time.

Next up: Be My Guest

Aww so nice to have someone to ride with on Small World. You know... for support.

I am not familiar with that song.

Wow, you did take a lot of pictures. How did you find the time? And plus with the outrageous speed, I'm surprised it wasn't just one big blur. Very impressive.

I too am a fan of Peter Pan, but our family has a love/hate relationship. You see, when my nieces were little tykes, the oldest decided she wanted to fly like Peter Pan... out of her second story window. Thankfully she was pulled back in beforehand.

I did not know about this live action Peter Pan!!!! And on my Birthday no less!!! I'll be sure to watch.

More and more of these rides are getting great standby lines, and they are the rides we always get fps' for. :upsidedow

It is a small world! Yes, and totally agree about PP is totally a firsts thing in morning or FP ride.

Great pictures from IASW. It was impossible to look at them without the song running through my mind.

Love Peter Pan. Hate the line. I think it is amazing that they finally have a new queue for this ride. Can't wait to see it.

And love the photos of Nate and Ben in Peter Pan. That must have been so much fun to watch.

As for live Peter Pan, musicals really aren't our thing, but I'm guessing we will watch it, because as you said... Christopher Walken!

Love Peter Pan and looking forward to the Dec. 4th live show. I remember watching Mary Martin play Peter Pan waaay back when I was a little girl !!!

We feel exactly the same way about Peter Pan. We like the ride, but won't wait long for it, so it has to b first thing or FP.

LOVE PP!! I can't remember the last time we waited in the standby line. Maybe first trip? I would love to see the new line but as with other new rides never see it bc of FP.
This is the only ride in FL that the boys still enjoy riding/ or don't complain that we have to. It's definitely a must do of us. ;)

I earned one of your shirts!!!

It's a very obscure song and I think the original basis for the term "ear worm"

Yeah, that is a lot of pictures, eh? I figured I go on the thing every 8 years or so, I might as well snap away.

Oh, no!!! So glad your niece was rescued before finding out the hard way that you need official Disney-licensed Pixie Dust to fly!!!

Early :bday: to you.

Right after I posted my trip report chapter, I went onto Facebook and saw the posting from Missy (missyrose here on the DIS). I came back and edited my post.

:rotfl2:

It is a shame to miss some of the special things to see at the Mine Train, and now Peter Pan when you use FP. It is the same way when you use the Express Pass/Front of the Line at Universal/Islands of Adventure- the queues for Men in Black, Mummy, Spiderman, etc have some interesting displays.

But not enough of a shame that I won't use FP for these attractions!!!

:lmao:

It is a small world! Yes, and totally agree about PP is totally a firsts thing in morning or FP ride.

I always feel sorry when I see people waiting in line for Peter Pan. I am really glad to see that WDW is making the experience a little more enjoyable. I wonder if it will have fans or be airconditioned, because previously that line was hot!!!

:(

Glad I could share pictures. Sorry the song came along with it.

 Peter Pan! Glad you enjoyed the blast from the past. One of Nate's few appearances on stage, but I am happy that Ben is sticking with it so far.

Can't wait to see the special effects. I'm excited to see Christopher Walken in the role of Captain Hook, but I know I will be comparing him to JT, the Hook in our show. He is amazing and Ben has been paired up/mentored and directed by JT in many productions (which you probably don't know since you are not into musicals)

Hook-Crocodile
They played father and son in Bye Bye Birdie
Ghost of Macbeth to Ben's Macbeth in Paranormal High School
JT was Pancho Villa to Ben's Butch Cassidy in Night at the Wax Museum

:goodvibes

Love Peter Pan and looking forward to the Dec. 4th live show. I remember watching Mary Martin play Peter Pan waaay back when I was a little girl !!!

:welcome: and thanks for posting.

Mary Martin and Cathy Rigby were both incredible Peters. It is fun to think that a lot of people I "know" will be watching the show at the same time.

:happytv:

We have done PP a few times without FP (before there was FP). Our first trip with FP in effect was our 2004 trip and PP was the ride where we used it. Then maybe we waited once in the standby line when it said "30 minutes". Should have known better. Live and learn.
