What Happens at the Beach Club... Travels with Teens, Take Two, (PTR) 4/6 p. 29

Brilliant plan :thumbsup2 My daughter loves it too so we are going to stick with £24 (everything here is priced with taxes included so is probably much the same as you're spending) and have agreed that freebies etc are all fair play:) Has made us both excited for Christmas!. Thank-you. Now to start putting it all together :goodvibes

And now we return you to your regularly scheduled programming...

Thanks Dee for letting us wander :offtopic: for a bit.

Well yes, one of those little bottles might be found right now in my apartment.

I'm doing a fun gift exchange with a friend this year where we are giving each other an advent calendar of 24 gifts. We can only spend $24 total so we need to come up with a variety of items that are free to help fill up the 24 days. A cute little bottle of ketchup may be sitting in my advent calendar gift pile.

Love this idea :thumbsup2 Hope you don't mind if I steal it? Think it might be fun to do with my grown up daughter :goodvibes

It has been a fun thing to do so by all means steal it. Our rules are that we can only spend $24 (before tax). I've used the money to buy some treats and some supplies to make a nice gift for the last day, but haven't been able to come up with 24 nice things for just $24, so many of the gifts are no cost items. We have agreed that freebies, leftover items found around the house and regifting are all fair play. So in addition to Captain's Grill ketchup, there will be some Disney soap and shampoo in the mix, as well as other items found around my house.

Yup!! Thanks Dee (sorry about the wee wander OT-my fault entirely):lmao::blush:
Back to your adventures :goodvibes

No worries at all- I don't mind wanderings and off-topic tangents.

What a great idea! :santa:

Dee, what a fun evening. Sorry you couldn't get into Captain's Grille (I remember we had a wait in December when there were 7 of us...I think it was about 30 minutes), but glad you found another option. Too bad about the slow service though. Guess you should have come with the hamburger?

I like the new carpet at the Beach Club...very pretty. And I think that the "new" decor is perfect!

It was such a great, great night. We could have spent even more time together having fun if we weren't all ready to drop from exhaustion.

The slow service was a pain. I was really worried about Teena. She mentioned as we were leaving the meet that she needed to eat soon and so I was concerned as every minute ticked by without food. :(

Yes, I totally should have had the burger. My food was fine, but I should have known better than just getting fries and clam chowder, which I can have anytime back home. When we had lunch at Captain's Grille in 2013, my family had a fantastic made to order clam chowder and I think that was on my mind.

The imagineers continue to tinker with the "décor".

:rotfl2:

Sorry Dee I've been MIA from here and the DIS altogether. Every time I think I may have a moment I start and get called away. The official and unofficial meets look like everyone had a great time! Sorry it took forever to get the food but it's all about the incredible company  yay

Perfectly understandable!!!

We had an amazing night. Truly a fun and caring group of people. It certainly made the wait for the food quite bearable.

Tuesday, August 19

Originally, I was going to be heading home on a morning flight. But when my friend gave me two days of park tickets, I changed my flight so I could visit the Magic Kingdom.

That gave me an opportunity to make breakfast plans with a friend first.

I love the early morning hours at Disney. It is so peaceful and crowd-free.

Here are some pictures from my morning stroll.

Wow!!! I don’t think I have ever seen a picture of the BC entrance that does not have at least one person in it.

This is where our room was located.

Look how still the water is on Crescent Lake:

Things are quiet on the Boardwalk this morning:

I was headed here:

I had dined here for dinner a couple of nights ago and now I was trying their breakfast for the first (and last) time. Why not get hooked on a restaurant that would be closing next month?

Table for 3 please!

NinjaMom and Buzzy would be my dining companions.

Menu:

Ninja and I decided we would split a couple of items. I was ready to dig in, but Ninja insisted on some Food Porn first!

:rolleyes1

Iced Coffee

Seasonal Fruit Bowl, $8.99

Stacked Kouzzina Breakfast, $12.49
2 Poached Eggs, Kalmata Olive Toast, Artichoke Spread and Sweet Potato Hash with choice of bacon or sausage

The meal was delicious and really filling, even though we split the meal.

Alas, we finished our shared breakfast and it was time to say goodbye to a supportive, wise and hilarious friend.

And I parted ways with Ninja, too.

I love your view and I don't think I've ever seen an emptry entrance to the BC either.

Love your breakfast company and the food looks really yummy. I'm so sorry that Mark and I never got to Kouzzina's before they closed. I kept trying to fit it in and never could manage.

I can't wait to hear about your "solo" day at the MK.

Ugh, I'm so behind. Just managed to read through the last several pages. First off, Happy Belated Birthday, Dee!

Loved seeing the meet photos. It was so much fun getting together. Next time, I plan to stay for a bit longer. My sister and oldest daughter should be able to handle our youngest thing for a few hours, I think...

KatMark, funny you mention Lilo and Stitch as your least favorite. My youngest daughter saw it for the first time a few weeks ago and it's been non-stop Lilo and Stitch. She loves it more than she ever did Frozen. Being a destructive toddler, she probably identifies with Stitch more than Elsa and Anna.

I do wish I'd tried Kouzzina at some point. I wonder if the new Italian place will serve any sort of breakfast.

Love your pictures. The shots of Crescent Lake are gorgeous.

So it was Ninja Mom who insisted on the food porn? Really?

I didn't have an opportunity to dine with Buzzy in August (thankfully) so it was nice of you to entertain him by sharing your food.

I am impressed at how much you managed to squeeze into your oh so short visit. Well done on making the most of a brief stay.

Looks like a gorgeous morning. Love the photos-you can sense how peaceful and quiet it was :goodvibes The Crescent Lake pictures are simply stunning:thumbsup2

Ahhhh the lake looks just like glass. I love the early morning. So pretty.

Wow, Disney usually does such a good job keeping flies away. They need more Dragonflies I guess...

So glad you decided to stay a little longer and get in some MK time.

I pay a lot of attention to pictures I see of the BC back entrance, since I have this view on the first page of the FAQ thread. The current picture I have has a woman sitting on a bench and I am always looking for a replacement picture. This one has no people, but it is a little dark.

We had a great breakfast. I'm glad I got to try both the dinner and breakfast at Kouzzina. I would return again based on those two meals, but I guess that won't happen.

;)

No worries! Thank you for the birthday wishes.

The get-together was great, and I was glad to get a chance to meet you and Thing2 and Thing3.

I haven't paid much attention to the goings-on over at the new BW Italian place, so I don't know if they will have breakfast there.

:goodvibes

Thank you! I think that extra second or two I was able to stop to steady the camera instead of just pointing and shooting while walking to catchup with my family really makes a difference.

Um, I think it was her. It's not like I'M obsessed with food photographs or anything. But at my advanced age, sometimes the recollection of events is a little fuzzy. ;)

Oh, no, I hope Buzzy didn't get locked back in that suitcase in the closet after I left.

It was definitely a pretty busy couple of days. Not atypical for a Disney trip for me, but I guess it goes to show that I don't need my family to push the limits.

Another full day coming up.

:thumbsup2

It was a gorgeous morning, but I'm pretty sure it was already hot out. It was such a hot couple of days.

Thanks! I love the reflection of the buildings in the water.

It was definitely a peaceful morning around the lake.

Our friend Buzzy was "born" a little more than a year ago, late summer/early fall, I believe. Do you remember the "Invasion of the Flies" over at the MK and some of the resorts for a couple of weeks? A batch of newly installed mulch was suspected in the incident. Buzzy is certainly super-fly since he has survived much longer than the few days lifespan of his cousins.

I am glad I stayed too. I had a fantastic morning at the Magic Kingdom!

::yes::

Ohhhh look at how quiet and peaceful it all is. Just gorgeous! And that still water! Makes me want to plunk my kayak in.
Breakfast looks good! Glad you were able to switch your flight to get a few more things in. :thumbsup2

I love early mornings on Crescent Lake. Usually there are plenty of runners out in the early morning. It is a perfect time to get outside. I would think that the best time to eat outdoors on the boardwalk in August would be for breakfast. It looks very enjoyable, except for the fly. ;)

I just got all caught up. I love the new decor at the BC. Your photos of Crescent Lake are really pretty. I've never seen the water so still!

All caught up!!! Many comments:

1. Great post regarding the meet - and love the history - funny thinking about all the different variations of my firm website photos at the various meets. Many thanks for all the years we traveled together in flat form!

2. I also detest Neverending Story. Truly awful movie. Forgot it was Disney. And you know I love Toy Story, so I'm with you on both counts!

3. Absolutely love the morning photos. So peaceful. Feeling sentimental because our family is really into mixing it up at Disney lately, so no Epcot resorts in my signature.

4. Goodbye Kouzzina! We liked the convenience and idea of Kouzzina, but other restaurants kept winning out for the regular rotation. Although the concept of the regular rotation is also gone for 2015, as we "mix it up!" (I am fully on board with mixing it up, as it keeps me away from both Legoland and Universal.)

Finally, my PM box is full and I'm also terrible at deleting, so Dee if you don't mind me going OT for a moment . . . Mickey T, are you in WDW for Marathon Weekend? I'm running the 5K with all three boys, my husband and teens are running the half and I'm running the full. If you'll be out there that weekend, let me know!

Great chapter Dee! Anything that involves berries is alright by me. I'm thinking of using that picture on the family Holiday Card. Festivus is right around the corner so I'll have to get busy taking pictures of all the larva if I'm going to get it in the mail on time.. :earseek:

Signed, your pal Buzzy the fly, your Beach Club Resort guy

All caught up (where have I been?). The ancillary meet sounds just as good as the first and what a way to spend a night (sorry to hear that Teena didn't have so much fun on her way home though).

The gauntlet has been thrown and I view it as my personal mission to get pictures of the back entrance without a person present. Does 2am work or is sunlight required? Also, since I am a YC kind of guy, I don't know if I'll be able to make it over to the BC but we'll give it a try.

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!

I ran a middle school dance and helped with a movie night Friday. Yesterday, we visited Mark's brother and his family and we got to meet our 2 week old great-nephew Lucas.

I spend my down time during the weekend going through vacation pictures from our Disneyland/Hawaii trip to figure out what to order for my photo albums. There was a sale at Shutterfly that ended yesterday. The total before discount came to $125 plus $30 shipping, but I ordered so much that it was 50% off, free shipping and I had $60 in previously purchased gift cards. So it was only $5 by the time I ordered! I got through all of the pictures from the trip, except for California Adventure. I was disappointed that I ran out of time and energy to add those on while the price was so good.

I am so glad I changed my flight, too. Bonus Disney time is sweet!

I absolutely loved my walk over to Boardwalk, the views were beautiful. Breakfast was a lot of fun. The food was delicious and filling. I think I forgot to mention that. I'll edit that back in.

Oooooo- kayaks! What a great idea! Do you know if there is any place on Disney property where you can rent kayaks. A lot of the waterways are probably too busy with transportation watercraft, but I bet a kayak rental business would make a bundle. #retirementscheme

Our reservation was at 7:30. I don't know where all the people were. I don't think we saw any joggers or fellow diners. Dining outside was really nice, but like you said, I don't think it would have been as enjoyable later in the heat of the day.

I suspect I would have had the same issue with the fly inside or out.

:lmao:

It was such a calm morning. Before the overwhelming heat took over. I can't wait to see a finished room and how the hallways turn out. They are currently working on the 5th floor club level rooms at the Beach Club and I hope to see some pictures by early December.

I think I missed the chance to wish you a fantastic trip, but hoping it is a great one for you!

:woohoo:

1. I had fun making the past flat attendees of the meet but it was always a time crunch. The meet has been scheduled a week or so after my family returned from our summer vacation so I would have to scramble to put it together. I loved the year you, me and Joanie were the 3 Amigos.

2. I think I inadvertently besmirched Disney's name. I don't think the Neverending Story was produced by Disney but it was the only animated film I could think of that I really disliked. I looked up info on this movie on Wiki, and it said it as German film and at the time of release it was the most expensive film produced outside of the US and USSR. It would have been a better experience if they served some German snacks, like maybe something from Karamel Kuche during the show. Then I wouldn't have minded the movie lasting so long.

3. That is my favorite area in Disney. Love the beauty of the resorts and how close it is to EPCOT and HS.

4. Which restaurants are making the cut? I need to get back to Boma, which is my favorite Disney restaurant and Mark desperately wants to return to La Hacienda.

Now I'm hungry. It's 6 am and I am craving hummus and black beans and rice!

Mike and his family will be at Disney for the January marathon. I will let you know where and when and I will be extremely jealous if the two of you get a chance to meet up.

:)

:wave2: Buzzy!

I wasn't sure if you would have a chance to post. I know it is a busy time of year for you, with Food & Wine. So many special sugary drinks...

:rotfl2:

Katesdad

It was a fantastic night- both the regular meet and the Crews Cup meal.

Teena was so frustrated and I'm sure exhausted during her trip home. And she was leaving later that day for a trip to Vegas to help Jeanne get ready for the new school year.

I'll be interested to see how you do with the photo challenge. Yes, needs to be during daylight hours. The other shot that is difficult to get is the Jib Slide Pirate Ship without a golf cart out in front, but I think I did finally get that picture during one of my trips.

:)

You can rent kayaks at Fort Wilderness! Johnny and I were looking at it one time. We thought if we had some extra time we'd love to do that. (We never had extra time! :lmao: )
