i agree,, most of us calling for ressies at their ts meals are shelling out over 3 to 4 grand for the week on the average. whats a free call to them.

This is absolutely atrocious customer service. How shameful.

I believe THAT is probably the answer to your question. Disney was paying for those phonecalls from everyone who used the 800 number. Somewhere along the way someone was asked to save some money and the 800 number got the axe. It's just business.

They probably figure if you can afford 3-4K (your estimate), you can afford a long distance call.

Disney World Reservations does not officially have a 800 number, but the number you were calling is the Walt Disney World Travel Company which is connected to Disney. They do your accomodations, dining, etc. just as Disney does and its official.

I just tried the 800 number too and I couldn't get through. I'm not sure why. Maybe its just temporary and for now, we'll just have to use the 407 number.

This one works too. I just used it this week. 1-800-828-0228. Dining is the #3 option.

Huh, I never even knew there was an 800 number! I always use the 407-WDisney number that I remember my mom calling from when I was a kid. I have unlimited long distance though so it doesn't make a difference! :)

I used it yesterday and it worked fine - I tried it out just now after reading this post and it is no longer working. The 877 number worked though.

Glad I checked here.

You know, it isn't just the fact that it's a long distance call, it's a LONG long distance call. I bet you are on the phone for a good minute before you even get through the menu choices and answering all their questions about how many times you've been there, etc!

I wish they had online dining reservations! Whenever I want to call to change or add dining ressies, I have to make sure I have a BIG chunk of uninterrupted (kids) time! It's not easy!

I have VoIP, so no long distance charges. Even though I COULD use the 800#, I use the 407 number so I can feel super extra indulgent holding on a number that would otherwise be costing me big $$$.

Yes.

There will soon be no extra charge for "long distance" on most phones.

Toll-Free is getting to be an unnecessary option.

Robo beat me to it.

I haven't given a second thought to calling "long distance" in several years. Most mobile phone plans that I know of have free long distance anyway (I know mine does).

And an earlier poster was correct about Disney paying for all those 800 calls. My in-laws used to have an 800 number for close relatives to call, and then everybody started using it instead of their regular number, so they had to cancel it because it cost them so much.

It's just a business decision, and I understand it completely.

I hope this is a joke! Do you know how much a 800 number cost? We had one at our business and how to cancel it, because all the locals were using it for some reason. The bill list Call Detail. I make one call for ADR's and I am finished.

I have always used the 800 number. Throughout my whole trip planning, I use it less than 4 times. Unfortunately, I can see why they would discontinue this if people are calling that same amount just within one week. It's a small price in the big picture of things, it will be ok to use a long distance number.

Most cell phones offer free long distance. I call on weekdays around 5am my time which is 8am in DW.

Try calling 1-877-939-3732. This one works.

:thumbsup2

Wow, I just made a bunch of ADR's last week on the 800 number that's now inactive. I've always had both numbers but thanks Cleokitty for posting the other number. Hopefully they won't dump that one before long distance costs become obsolete (if they do)...otherwise back to the old cell phone for making ADRs. Don't need to pay anymore $$ than we already do for our Dis trips...:thumbsup2
