What happened to Mickey and the brooms?

Just noticed that Mickey and the brooms are not on the back of the Dream. Anyone know why? I know they were a couple weeks ago.

Removed for cleaning.

How often do they do that, and how long until they get put back on? I assume this happens on the other ships regularly too? I thought maybe they would only do something like that during a drydock.

Not sure how long.

Probably? I'm sure it is done during dry dock, but with that only every 5 years or so, it has to be done more often.

I'm just glad Disney takes care of them rather than just leaving them to be all dirty and faded. Not all lines take as much care.

Just wanted to correct this. Commercial ships are required to have a dry dock twice within a 5 year period, the maximum time between dry docks is 36 months.

Don't remember them ever having to remove the back figures from other ships other than during dry dock, but I could be wrong. Are we sure this is just for routine cleaning? Seems odd to remove them for that.

That is what I was told - cleaning and repainting.

I was just thinking when we were on 3 weeks ago that they were getting pretty faded and need some care. Glad to see Disney did too.

So is that cleaning/painting/maintenance done on board the ship, or are they in port somewhere for that work?

We were on the Dream last month on deck 5 aft right above the mickey. They were in the process of taking them down for painting. While in Port Canaveral they were doing the maintenance work.

I'm pretty sure they are in port with a crew there. I am not sure who made those but it would be easier to paint them and do detail work on dry land and let them dry out in an open air type environment then to try and do it in a small part of the ship.
