what happened to Fastpass

I remember back when Fastpass first started a bunch of rides had it including Pirates, Star Tours, and Haunted Mansion, now a ton of rides don't have it anymore. Why? Why did they get rid of so many

Pirates kind of makes sense because even though the line looks long it moves fast, they get through 1500 riders in one hour.
But why the others?

I would imagine they got rid of Haunted Mansion for the same reason as Pirates, since they are both capable of handling large amounts of people in the regular line. Although Haunted does have FP during the popular holiday overlay.

Star Tours didn't need FP in its older state because the lines were never long. But it will have FP when it re-launches in June with high demand from park-goers.

I would imagine Disney will always be evaluating FP and whether a ride needs FP or not. Things will change over time as attractions become more or less popular.

Sometimes I wish TSMM had FP, but then I read about the WDW version which has FP and how crazy the lines are over there. So might not be such a good thing after all! ;)

HM will still open up FP during the Holidays. But otherwise it probably was simply found not necessary and costing extra in staff.

If I remember correctly, FP started with the ones it has now (with the exception of Buz because it wasn't out yet and now they've taken it away for ST anways) and then they added a bunch, including PoTC, HM, Matterhorn and ST, but I think they realized the need for them wasn't as large, so they stopped them for the ones they had added. I believe that's what happened.

When did Matterhorn get Fastpass?

HM does have FP during the holidays and ST will have it again soon starting in June.

As others have said, Disney was kind of experimenting 10 years ago and after they learned more they discontinued some FPs.

Matterhorn never had fastpass.

I am not familiar with all the abbreviations what is TSMM?

Star Tours makes sense as lines weren't long and thank God they are putting it back, you would think they would put Fastpass on their new rides like Toy Story Mania (wait is that TSMM?) but honestly that line moves pretty fast too. But the format loading platform and line cues has it perfectly set up for fastpass
NEMO needs it BADLY and is set up well for it. one sub for fastpass one sub for standby
I hope little mermaid will have it (and the big cars ride when it opens)

ok so let's name those rides with fastpass

Roger Rabbit Cartoon Spin
Thunder Mountain Railroad
Haunted Mansion (for the Holidays only)
Star Tours (to be returning on its re-opening)
Buzz lightyear (losing it to Star Tours? I thought Star Tours had their own machines, separate from buzz)
Autotopia
Space Mountain
Splash Mounatin

DCA
California Screamin
Goofy's sky school (had it before it closed I imagine it will have it when it re-opens)
Grizzly River Rapids
Tower of Terror
soarin over california
Bug's life 3d Tough to be a bug (why? I never have had to wait in that ridiculously long cue line, or is fastpass gone for that too?)

Is that it? I am doing these off the top of my head.

We were there March 16-20 and the only DL rides that currently had FastPass were:

Indiana Jones
Space Mountain
Roger Rabbit

DCA:
screamin'
Soarin'
Grizzly River Run
? Bugs life (didn't make it there)

We used Fast Pass all the time but wished there were more rides to use it on. The line for TSMM did not move quickly! We were in it an hour atleast! That ride really needs FastPass! I would only ride Indiana Jones using a Fast Pass. We love walking past the long line of people waiting!

You are missing Indiana Jones Adventure. The FP for Buzz is no more. Whether it's due to Star Tours or not, we will have to see.

I thought the Grizzly River Run Fastpass machines are now the World of Color Fastpass machines, or am I mistaken?

GRR Fastpasses are WOC in the morning, then when the WOC FP's run out it converts back to GRR. When it is WOC its 'disconnected', ie you can get FPs for other rides at the same time.
