What groceries if any, do you stock up on.

I'm starting to make a list of groceries I want to pick up for my upcoming trip. Normally, I wouldn't get much. But I think that I may want to pick up some snack type stuff and maybe some hot dogs etc. for a quick meal.

What do you pack the refrigerator with in case you get the "urge" to make a meal in the unit??

I mostly bring stuff like PopTarts, peanut butter/jam, crackers, cereal. Then I buy some bread, fruit, water, milk when I get to WDW. Mostly quick, grab and go stuff. I don't think I would ever do more than micro something.

We usually just get breakfast supplies, and snacks. On longer trip we will have cold cuts and rolls/bread for a quick sandwich. Always loads of beverages, coffee, tea, soda, beer, wine.... You just have to stay hydrated. :smooth: :smooth: We don't usually 'cook' other than breakfast, as we are all on vacation, and that includes the cook too. When the kids were young and we drove, and the budget was tighter, we would bring the crockpot and make several dinners, but now it is usually just DW and me so we do breakfast most days in the unit and enjoy the Disney and Universal dinning options.

Have a great trip.

Perhaps I am an under privileged DVCer, but I have yet to get an "urge" to make a meal in the unit. :teeth:

There are times we make a little appetizer type thing before dinner, but we pick that up at the WL Mercantile.
We don't do this enough to make stocking up worth while.

Even beer and wine (which we do buy a lot of) is not worth buying ahead of time. I know it's more expensive to buy on-site, but the thought of lugging it around at check-in is just not worth it to us.

Have fun!...

We've vacationed DVC three times now and this last time was the first time we did any meals in the villa. There were four little girls with us this trip and my guest was on a tight budget so we did 3 breakfasts and three lunches in the villa.

I found that I didn't mind cooking breakfasts in at all. I didn't feel much like fixing lunch after a morning at the parks but in retrospect I should've just laid out the supplies and had everyone fix thier own sandwiches, etc. instead of fixing them all myself.

We ended up getting frozen waffles & frozen precooked sausage, syrup, bacon, eggs, bread, deli ham, cheese, frozen tater tots, peanut butter, jelly, chips, dip, Cheetos, Kool Pops, Koolaid, Coke, Sprite and I brought a few tea bags & Sweet & Low from home. I also brought a box of microwave popcorn that we didn't open. We consumed everything except for some leftover peanut butter & jelly.

I always bring coffee and coffee filters, salt & pepper and some margarine (both stick and soft, so I don't have to buy a whole package for just a little). If we're there for any length of time, I'll throw in some other condiments, like ketchup, mustard, etc, so I don't have to steal packets from the parks.

If you're driving and have the room, throw it in, you can always leave it home on a future trip! :p

Breakfast - bagels & cream cheese or English muffins, cereal for kids. Something quick so we can get to the parks early.

Lunch at the parks if it's a park trip for us.

Supper - sandwiches stuff. We also eat some evening meals out.

I take tea bags to make iced tea. Buy cola products, fruit, cookies.

We usually bring about 1/3 of our foodstuff with us. We have a DVC box that contains small quantities of various spices, cooking oil, coffee, tea, etc. and we buy cereal, snack stuff, drink mixes, pop, and alcohol when it is on sale and set it aside for our trip. We are going later this summer and will stock-up when the 4th of July sales are on. It is easier to plan a little ahead and avoid joining the other vacationers standing "DUH-faced" in the isle of the Super-Walmart....when instead, you could be at the pool.

Happy Planning!:bounce:

We never used the stove in 17 vacations down there, but there is one thing that you really might want to get off site and that is soda. I usually buy my soda at one of the local gas stations. I also buy some water there. I get my snack stuff at the general store where we stay and I drive from OKW to Dixie Landings to get my cheese and fruit plates. Begals and butter are the only thing I have in the ref for breakfast. We eat out the other 2 meals all the time plus breakfast most of the time, it might be nice to have a meal in the unit, but we just never can get ourselves to do it, just too many nice places to eat at WDW.

Coffee and filters, bottled water, wine, bread, fruit, cheese. For breakfast - cereal, bagels, full breakfast fixings (eggs, bacon, etc) if the boys are along.

Again if the boys are along : chips, soda, ice cream, meat, cheese, rolls to make sandwiches, frozen pizza.

We always buy breakfast fixings like cereal, oatmeal, pancake mix, sausage, juice bread, peanut butter, margarine, cheese etc. etc. We usually plan one main meal in for the trip, and for that we usually do pork chops, potatos, salad in a bag and those bags of little cleaned carrots. We usually do snacks and soft drinks etc as well. Coffee and tea usually come with us as does a small container of sugar, and travel salt and pepper shakers and any seasonings we need.

Our philosophy is that we like to eat all breakfasts (unless we get a PS for CRT), around 1/2 the lunches, and about 1/2 the suppers in the Villa.

For breakfasts I like to save the cold stuff for when we're in hotel rooms, so we get:

Pancake mix
eggs & bread (french toast)
breakfast sausage links

They are quick and easy to fix.

Lunches:

PB&J
Chips & dip
(leftovers from the steakhouse the night before)

Suppers:
Frozen Pizzas
Frozen fish & vegetables
Spaghetti & meat sauce

Other stuff:
Milk
Dr. Pepper (We're not big fans of Coke products)
Salt & Pepper
Margerine
Paper towels

We used far more breakfast stuff than we thought. Eggs, cheese, coffee, cream. But we had a guest on Atkins, so we started every morning with eggs, not our usual pattern.

We also use a lot of water.

I like to have peanut butter, jam and bread around for quick sandwiches, but honestly, most of it gets left behind. So does most of the pop - just aren't big pop drinkers. I always bring fruit snacks and granola bars - about half as many get used as I think will. I like to have some sort of fruit on hand - to combat french fry overload, but that gets left too.

(BTW, paper towels are supplied with the unit - but you will need your own salt and pepper and coffee filters).

paper towels are supplied with the unit
Correct... but with three kids we tend to go through a lot of them and they also double as napkins, PB&J plates, etc.

I second the idea of water too! I can't stand the public water down there!

I bring cereals & buy milk & dounuts, however the kids sometimes are to excited about heading to the parks & don't want to eat breakfast, so I always bring granola bars to through in the backpack for when they do get hungry later that morning.

I also bring pb& jelly & buy bread, chips, fruit, & frozen pizzas for late, quick meals, for those times the kids are to tired to stop for supper & just want to go back to the room.

Also bring bottle water for back pack & snacks for in the room.

When we eat in the room it is not because we are watching the budget (we try not to worry about budgets on vacations), it is because we are tired of eating out, to tired to sit up straight while eating, or waiting for others to finish getting ready anyways, might as well eat.

Everything always gets eaten, except all the milk & peanut butter & jelly.

Beverages, snacks and basic breakfast items, i.e bagels; are all we keep in a refrigerator on vacation--no matter where we are. We are now to the point in our lives where we never cook on vacation. Eating at different restaurants is a very enjoyable and important part of all of our vacations.
When the kids were young, we always stayed at FW in a trailer, (which are now the FW cabins); and we cooked a lot. But as the kids got older and we outgrew FW and discovered the deluxe resorts and then DVC, we wanted/needed to eat in our unit less and less.
Now we are a very quick run to the grocery store for the basics, after we check into our villa, and we are good to go. All other dining needs are handled by Disney Dining!

We think in terms of saving money and time, not in terms of "the pleasure of cooking." So we stock up for all breakfasts (except a special character breakfast), saving approximately one billion dollars per person. We also stock up on the kinds of snacks that can be carried in fanny packs, and we fill the water bottles. These two save us approximately the national debt.

we ended up cooking and cleaning every meal with no help. We now have breakfast and thats all in the room. Maybe we get carryout and snacks but the stove never gets used at WDW. There are not enough hours in the day to go to the parks and cook/clean. It was no vacation for us when we did all the cooking, etc. We have taken a crockpot with us to other trades. Those are more relaxed times and cooking isn't such a big deal. We are going to Williamsburg in Oct and plan to cook some there. We take some things to WDW-tea bags, coffee filters, sweetener, salt and pepper, some garbage bags and food bags. We hate the see through garbage bags and they so so thin. We buy snacks, drinks, cereal, milk, etc when we get there. We get bottled water and freeze it the night before. It stays cold most of the day and is a great relief from the heat.
