With all the wonderful threads on food lately, it has got me thinking about food that others feel are best avoided. For us, we look at the turkey legs and although we know they probably taste good, we are alarmed that they always look bloody and pink, too rare for our liking, and we worry about the safety of the item. Do you have any must-avoid items for your family, and have any of you fallen ill over eating at any place in the parks? I feel the standards are very high, so chance of food-bourne illness is probably rare, but I just wondered. Another thing I found difficult to eat was the monte cristo at BB. It was so greasy it was very difficult to even eat one quarter of it, and I am not a small eater usually.

This is something that's on a lot of other people's "must have" lists, but the monte cristo an Cafe Orleans made me sick. Waaaaaay to greasy.

Burgers, in general but to be more specific the burgers from Hungry Bear in Critter Country.

I am not a fan of the turkey legs just because they look gross. I am sure they are perfectly safe or Disney would not risk it. I avoid the diner by Jedi training. Forgot the name.

Jory,
The turkey legs are salt cured and fully cooked before they are roasted--and that is why they sort of taste like ham. I am also not a fan of them, but despite their color, they are fully cooked! Smoked meats often still have that pink color (like ham).

I also don't like the monte cristo. I have never had a whole one, but can't imagine you would feel that great after eating one.

Not a sick issue but..more of a beware

At bengal BBQ they serve the mickey pretzel with cheese.
We ordered this for our 6 year old and he freaked out...turns out they use jalepeno cheese at bengal bbq but it is just listed on the menu as mickey pretzel w/ cheese.
If it had been for and adult no big deal but I wish they would list it correctly in the menu.

I'm super wary of two things, salads and the French Market. Flew into LA late, ate at the French Market (the Dixieland Cajun Chicken Salad) and the next morning woke up and couldn't leave the hotel room for more than 36 hours, two Christmas' ago. I've only ever been more physically ill one time in my life (food poisoning from a local Indian restaurant). Not pointing any fingers.. just the facts :teacher: with that being said though, I am generally not wary in the slightest of any other food. We have spent many years eating all over the resort and have never had so much as even a tummy ache. And incidentally, IMO the French Market has one of the best settings to eat in Disneyland :upsidedow

I ate the burger from Tomorrow Terrace and was in the bathroom several times after-not good. thank god we ate at end. Luckily i brought my imodium pills.Dh ate the double bacon cheese burger and he was fine.

now i'm curious why the burgers at Hungry Bear in Critter Countryare bad. Is it topping, taste or just not cooked all the way? I need to remember to tell them to cook my burgers well done

I'm more afraid of the prices than the food, haha. Okay, silly, but anyways.

I'm vegetarian so I avoid all the meat products Disney has to offer, anything else to me is game!

I actually like Hungry Bear's veggie burger, it was tasty. Pizza Port was decent, but a little bland.

My whole party got food posioning at Blue Bayou...we have never gone back...just too nervous to risk sitting on the pots in DL again!

They are just not good, so I guess it is taste. It has been nearly 13 years since I have eatten there but at the time they looked liked those pre-made frozen batties you can get at the grocery store.

The lobster nachos at the Cove Bar were so bad we sent them back.

I like lobster and i like nachos, just not together.....makes my stomach turn just thinking about it but I know I have things that I love that others feel are not supposed to go together too.

The pizza at Pizza Port. DD didn't even like it.

They had a chance to be decent but they were ice cold, and the cheese in the middle wasn't even melted. Gross. :)

We like the burgers at Hungry Bear, and I did enjoy the Monte Cristo (although it is VERY heavy), but my husband got very very sick a few years ago and the only thing that he ate that I didn't was the pepperoni pizza at Pizza Port.

Poor guy spent an entire day throwing up in the hotel room. So.... ever since then, we don't eat the pizza there. As others have said, it's not really like we are missing anything. We do however still eat at Pizza Port, and especially like getting the Chicken Fusilli. popcorn:: Yum!

In 2005 my family ate at Rancho del Zocolo.....it was by far the worse meal we had all trip. The tacos were dripping with grease & fell apart because of it. The beans seemed like they had been watered down....absolutely no flavor & the consistency of a melting milkshake. The rice was dry & flavorless. We are huge fans of Mexican food & was disappointed that we had lost this as an option to fulfill that need. We haven't been back.

Now I know this is a fav of many, MANY Diser's, so I am going back to DL in less than 3 weeks & am giving this place another shot. Everyone raves about it, so I'm hoping for good results!!

We had Rancho back then too and thought it was disgusting. We gave it another shot in 2009 and loved it! I always get the carne asada w/cheese enchiladas platter.:)
