What exactly is Soap Weekend at MGM, and what are the dates?

What happens during this weekend, and is MGM horribly crowded? If so, does it seem like the other parks are less crowded, or does it not affect them?

Is there one central location in MGM that all this happens or is it spread out throughout the park? We'll be there Nov. 6 - 12 and I just read elsewhere on the boards that Soap weekend will be sometime during that time. Obviously, I want to avoid the crowd if possible! Thanks!

We were there last 11/8 - 11/16 and the first weekend was Super Soap Weekend and the end of NJ week (don't ask!). That Sat. we hit MGM early and I've never been at a Rope Drop with so few people, less that 6 or so deep at the rope. We never used FastPass, most rides were walk-ons. The 'stars' are located at various points around Mickey's Hat and up towards NY Street, away from Tot and R'nR. Prople just line up to get pics and autographs of their favorites. I think everyone over-reacts to the fear of crowds and the place is not at all crowded. We'd do this week again in a heartbeat. Don't know this year's dates, but yours sound about right.
