What exactly is BING?

Mine too, and I can't figure out how to uninstall. It won't let me uninstall!

It's Microsoft's version of Google.....their search engine.

There should be a way to set Google as your default search engine.

A search engine. If you don't like it, just go to your browser's default settings and change to a different one, such as Google or Firefox or Opera.

The problem with Bing, IMO, is that if you accept it as your default, it also usually loads a really intrusive toolbar. It also uses too much "suggestion" logic to take me places that I don't actually want to go.

I find a lot of times if you download something it will sneak it in there to accept it as your default browser. Same with Ask.

you already answered your own question.
its a search engine just like google or yahoo.
my search engine suddenly got changed to yahoo a couple months ago but i changed it back to google.
if you're having a hard time figuring out h ow to change it back to what it was before then just go to the website of the search engine you like and search that way.
for example go to google.com.

You don't have to change your whole browser to change your default search engine. Do a Search for changing default search engine for (name of browser.) IF you have Internet Explorer, it may be harder to get rid of as Bing is Microsoft's main search engine. They probably somehow defaulted you to it with their latest update. Although, as a PP mentioned, it usually is snuck in with something else you agreed to download and didn't know Bing came bundled with it.

I have google, but for some odd reason bing still keeps showing up. it makes it super slow.

It's the Bing addon from MS. They pushed it out as part of a series of updates a few months ago (though it can take a while for the update to be "Forced" onto your system). They did the same thing with Skype. They are trying to force people to start using it, because frankly...it's failing. It's not a virus, it's not adware (in a sense), but it's incredibly annoying.

You probably got prompted recently to "restart windows to finish applying updates", which is a dead giveaway that MS is forcing something down your throat, and then it suddenly appeared, right?

To get rid of it, do the following.

(XP, Vista, 7)
Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features
Uninstall the Bing Toolber (and anything else that says Bing)

(Win 8, 8.1, 10)
Go to your Metro window, then start typing "control panel". It will pull up. Choose Programs and Features, and do the same thing.

AFTER it is uninstalled, follow any instructions for your specific browser on how to set your search engine back to whatever you want the default to be (most likely Google, I'd suspect).
