I've heard of this often, but haven't gotten a chance to check it out...is it sold at a counter by Canada in EPCOT? Ice cream, cake, flavors?? What is it???

Thanks!

Its a fried dough type of snack at one of the snack kiosks in Canada. Havent tried one yet but its on my list!

they are first fried but when you get them from shack in Epcot/Canada, they are run through a broiler type machine. The come out very warm and are great!!! You have some choice of toppings (maple, chocolate, etc.) but we love the ones with just cinnamon and sugar. THEY ARE AWESOME! Enjoy!

After much hype on this board, my family and I decided to get one of these the evening we were in Epcot. Notice I said ONE. They are huge, and more than enough for 3 people. We got ours topped with chocolate hazelnut spread. Ohmygoodness! What a treat! This oblong piece of warm dough topped with warm chocolate hazelnut spread and then sprinkled with powdered sugar. It was an experience, to say the least.

No its not a funnel cake, its a sweet dough that has been rolled flat and then fried sort of like a doughnut is. Although I heard recently that they are now broiled. In any case they are then topped with different toppings, lie the previous poster explained. But - the kiosk doesnt open untill three PM.

Thanks for the link. It sounds a lot like the funnel cakes they serve here in the midwest at fairs, carnivals, theme parks, etc. It may be served flat, but it's more or less a fried pastry that is a cousin of the doughnut covered with various toppings. Broiled is interesting...that makes it more "waffle-like"?

I would have to say they are just like Fried Dough, just in the shape of a Beaver Tail.

no they are not funnel cakes. Funnel cakes are made with a sweet pancake like batter that is poured from a funnel into hot oil

Beaver tails are made with a whole wheat yeast dough similar to bread dough

We ate the cinnamon sugar beavertail, and it reminded me of an elephant ear type pastry. Of course I'm not sure how well known elephant ears are in different parts of the country??

Funnel cakes are sweeter, and IMHO, tastier. After missing out on the beavertail our first 2 trips we were really looking forward to it. DH and the kids liked it, I was a bit disappointed.

They are very similar to elephant ears. The mian difference being that beavertails are made with whole wheat.

IMHO funnel cakes are usually too sweet and too soft to stand up to topping. I like a plain one with a little powdered on it, but it gets lost among chocolate or fruit
