What ever happened to the resort going outside of Epcot's entrance?

There was a brief time where there was supposed to be a new hotel going up just outside the front entrance to Epcot but then it seemed to just disappear. I'm guessing it went quietly into the Chapek abyss. However, I saw this picture of the updated Epcot refurb and I might be mistaken but it kind of looks like the planned resort in the background behind Spaceship Earth. FR_WhnLWQAAy-at.jpg

I think the building in the background is Cosmic Rewind. But I do recall the proposal you are asking about. I can't recall if it was ever formally announced, or just an idea they explored. But haven't heard about for a few years now so I think it is safe to assume the plan was shelved

They never announced it, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's coming after EPCOT is finally finished and they finish the new Poly DVC tower. They could offer 1/2 the rooms up to DVC and they'd make most of their investment back.

I'm hoping they moved Floridian Way because they plan on expanding Magic Kingdom, but there's been rumors for years they're going to build a boutique hotel next to Adventureland too in the location Fire Mountain was going.

Oh man I actually hope that doesn’t happen. I was hoping for a big ride there in the future that’s available for everyone.

That art is taken from the land pavilion looking towards mission space. The resort was supposed to be about 100 degrees to the left where the art is looking from. The hotel was rumored to be up where the monorail line comes in from the TTC before it makes it to the parking lot. The art shows what Moana Journey of water is or was going to look like.

I remember that as well, because it reminded me of Disneyland Hotel and the entrance to Disneyland Park in Paris. It was pre-covid, so maybe amid all that happened with Covid, it quietly fell off the table. But there was definitely talk about it from Disney.

I don't think we will see it built, unless it is another DVC property. Lately, it seems all the new resort being built are DVC which makes sense. Disney isn't really putting up the money to build the resort, points purchased cover that cost.

They've had that land earmarked for a DVC hotel since the mid-90s. It will happen someday.

Once Epic Adventure opens, I would not be surprised to see WDW suddenly put in the EPCOT DVC resort. Not sure I'm a fan, but I suspect it will happen. Given, current building, I don't think it will be a regular resort, but most likely a DVC resort.
