My DS8 & DS5 love both Lego Indiana Jones DS games, also the Lego Star Wars but not to the point where they fight over it! 
Watch the rating on some of the lego games because a lot of them are for 10+. You can't go wrong with (for the 5th or 6th time) New Super Mario Bros & Mario Kart; they also like Mario's Bowsers Revenge. We have the first Phineas & Ferb & they said it was too hard & it got tossed aside. My DS5 has Zhu Zhu pets--it's pretty simple to figure out & keeps him entertained. As far as educational look at the Reading Tutor games--they have them for different age groups. I've heard a lot of hype about the Club Penguin games so I'm looking into those for Christmas.
That's a good move buying both of them DSi's--I got a DS lite for my younger son thinking it didn't matter & he keeps swiping big brothers DSi to take pictures!
