I was raised that you have a starch, a meat/poultry/fish and a veggie. I find that I still serve my meals this way even though for some reason this seems not to be the norm anymore. Do you plan your dinner like this?

That's how ours are usually. I like to add more than one veggie though. Especially right now when there are so many yummy ones in season :) .

Ours are usually like that for example,

Chicken, potatos, green beans, rolls.

Tonight though is pizza!

well tonight was bacon and cheese omellet's with toast..

Generally it looks like- chicken, potato of some sort, and veggie and we always have a salad.

Pasta's the hard night- usually pasta, bread, and salad...no extra veggie

Brandy

Yes, for the most part I do that as well. Dh, on the other hand, prefers meat and starch so he might make chicken, mac 'n cheese, corn, rolls, and even rice-a-roni. I don't know that I picked up the starch, veggie, meat from my upbringing or just from years of eating Weight Watchers way. I see all those starchy things of dh's and cringe. Forgot to say, I almost always have some sort of fruit as well, either applesauce, sliced peaches, fruit salad, etc.

I was raised the same way - although today I try to have a salad first :flower:

Usually our dinners are this way - although my DF would like me to leave out the extra veggies :confused3

Typically I fix a meat, two veggies, and a starch. I started cooking this way when DS was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 18 months. Things have changed a lot since then...he doesn't have to have the starchy carbs now! Ah, the wonders of science and medicine! But, old habits are hard to break. Some nights I just fix junk....

Tonight it is grilled chicken, potatoes, cauliflower, and peas. MMMMMMmmmmmm.....

I like to include an appropriate fruit too. For example:
Pork chops, mashed potatoes, peas and applesauce (My DH's favorite meal)
Chicken, stuffing, corn and cranberry sauce
Ham, sweet potatoes, green beans and pineapple/cherries

I certainly don't always accomplish this, but I do try. The most important thing is that we sit down together as a family to eat our meal, even if it's from KFC! I think that's so important.

Yep, same formula for me too except I have two veggies or a salad and one veggie. It's what my mother fixed every evening when I was a kid and I guess it's just ingrained into my head that that's the proper way to fix a meal. Dh doesn't follow the formula though so when he fixes dinner it's usually one dish like stir-fry (I'd at least fix rice to go with it and probably a salad, lol)

Since it is just me I usually just make a meat and one side dish. I can only eat leftovers so many times so that is why I don't go all out.

That's how I was raised--but I don't really try for a starch....main course and veggie and/or salad. Bread optional---starch not usually in the picture.

Salad and a protein shake these days. There's not near enough time to do the exercise necessary to burn off all the calories that would come from a traditional dinner.

Same here, meat, veggie and always a starch, I could eat just the starches :) (and sometimes I do)

Meat or either sometype of chicken or turkey dish, a salad and a veggie. Hardly ever a starch... We have boring dinners at my house....

Rarely we have meat/chicken, some days its just 4-5 different veggies and no meat/ starch..some days its just pasta, others just a chicken burger...normally I am cooking one dinner for me, a seperate one for my daughter and at times when grandma doesn't want what I am having I cook three different things....I do them all at the same time so its not that big of a deal....and we also go out to eat a lot, especially during the school year with all the after schoool activities its just easier, I have her bring her homework and we either knock it out in the restaurant or in the morning before she goes to school...

We usually do the meat starch and veggie. I don't know why, but I never serve much fruit. My mom always had a canned fruit with our dinners and I never liked canned fruit, but when I first got married I always served fresh, but just stopped for some reason. I usually try to serve a salad of some kind also.

When I stayed home I use to fix dessert, but we don't do that anymore for some reason. Hummmmmmm things to ponder why???????

Tonight we had beef/shrimp stir fry. Then I made a tomato and avocado salad. We try to have a meat, always a vegetable, and now I try for healthier starches such as pinto beans or brown rice. Growing up we always had a salad with dinner.
