What do you use to crossbody your iPhone, so you don't drop it in precarious locations like over ocean water?

I just got home from an amazing Norway Scandinavian cruise. As we were going thru the Fjords, I was using a regular Sony camera around my neck and my iPhone for great photos. I'm realizing I may not need my Sony camera anymore, as the iPhone camera is superior and doesn't need as much editing. But, I was petrified as I leaned over the edge to get that perfect photo of the waterfalls, using the phone!! So, I need to cross body it next time, but have never done that before. I don't mean a cross body purse, I have them. I mean, holding the phone itself, I need it to be around my neck to keep it completely secure. Do you use anything, I'd love to know what to buy for our next big trip. thanks!

Jillpie-I would love to hear about this cruise! have you done any other European cruises? And why did you pick this one? Looking to do something in Europe in 2025, but the options are overwhelming (In a good way:))

Cell phone spends most of my cruise time in the safe in the stateroom. Yes, it takes amazing photos, but we prefer using our digital camera with a zoom lens.

I have a wrist strap on my phone because I'm paranoid about it getting stolen from my hand and of dropping it in the ocean or other non-reachable place. I never thought about getting a cross body strap for it.

I have been looking at the products by Bandolier. They are a little more expensive, but I like all the different components you can add to customize it.

I have this:

I wouldn't call it "cross-body" exactly, as the strap isn't that long - more like a necklace. But I can definitely take pictures while wearing it.

I use it when I want to take my phone outside, but don't have decent pockets. It's silicone (or similar) and the rounded corners go around the corners of the phone.

Edited from my iPad (because I was posting from the phone before, so couldn't include it in the photo.) - This is what it looks like on, and with the card pocket in use:

I've been checking out their site as well. We're taking a couple of trips next year where I'll want my phone accessible, but I could easily lose it over water in Panama or on the "marine safari" we're doing in South Africa....as well as the regular safari. We've toyed around with getting a DSLR, but my husband doesn't want the hassle of extra luggage. Bandolier has nice stuff.

We went with Overseas Adventure Travel, located in Boston, they do land and sea adventures world wide. We love them. It was a small ship that they own, with a capacity of 88, crew of 60, felt like a king and queen the whole time. They do focus on the "older generation", over 50. Loved this cruise! Started in Bergen, Norway and spent most of the cruise in Norway, ending with one day in Sweden and one in Copenhagen, it was great!

This is what I use:
https://www.amazon.com/OUTXE-Universal-Phone-Lanyard-Smartphones/dp/B08D67S21Z/ref=sr_1_15?crid=38B8LF6GDP20I&keywords=iphone+cros+sbody+strap&qid=1688395377&sprefix=iphone+cros+body+strap,aps,169&sr=8-15

It has a another strap that is a wrist strap and I notice I use that more on vacation. Easy to just pull out of my purse and hold the phone like that if I'm going to be shooting lots of photos here and there. It is nice with the extra safety of the wrist strap.
Perfect, just what I was looking for, thank you!

thanks for taking the time to post these, I think I need a little longer strap so it can be cross body and not solely around my neck, but this is pretty neat, thanks!

thanks, I will take a look at this brand too!

I use adaptors for my iphone so that I can hook a wrist strap or lanyard onto it.

Used to have the Blackrapid tether tab/wander bundle combination. More recently I've been using the Casetify strap card with a wrist strap or lanyard. Casetify does sell some cross body straps but I'm not familiar with them though!

When we went to the grand canyon, we bought these really bulky waterproof cases with lanyards and hated them. Some others on our raft went with something similar to post #2 and it was far superior.

Agreed, we had those as well on a rafting safari in Costa Rica. We ended up ditching it and taking the phone out because it was too difficult to take pix. I'm not worried so much about the phone getting a bit wet from rain or spray....more that I'll drop it in the drink....or off the side of a safari vehicle that is bouncing around if I'm taking video. The bandolier cross body straps (or something similar) would seem to do the job.

I LOVE the Bandolier Iphone case and strap I got a couple months ago. I also got the zip case which I can add on when needed .The leather phone case stays on all the time and I just add the strap when I want . They are more expensive but honestly are a quality product and worth it.

Glad to hear you like it so much! Does the zip pouch really hold much? I saw they came out with a larger pouch (two inches deep instead of one) and I am torn . . .)

The one I have is the expanded pouch which is the 1” thick. It holds things that are relatively flat . I have a couple car key fobs and a smaller wallet that holds my id , cards, and such in it normally with no issues. A comb would fit but not a brush. I can put glasses inside if I use a soft or narrower case but not at the same time as the wallet. I am happy with the size because it forces me to choose what I really need in there instead of what I “might” need. 😆 I am an avid over packer! Good luck!
