Vet recommends Advantage and Heartguard, but I of course nearly died when they told me how much they charge... I am looking to see if I can get it cheaper online, but want to see what you use, and if you have to sell your right kidney to pay for it ;)

Know any great discount places to buy it?

THANKS!

We use Heartguard for our chocolate Lab. We only have to use it 6-months of the year, but I don't recall it being that expensive. Maybe small town veterinarians don't charge as much as bigger town/city ones, I don't know. I think there are places you can order it on-line though, like Petsmart.

Heartworm=Heartguard and I get it from the vet and she doesn't charge that much. I give it to him all year.

Flea protection =Zodiac flea collar. Been using that since Ted was a pup, change it every 3-4 months, have never had a flea problem. Bathe him with flea soap about every 3-4 months too.

my dogs (3 of them) use heartguard. I can order it cheaper online, but honestly I always forget to order it and then I end up going to the Vet to pick it up anyway. I can't remember why, but I remember my Vet saying she doesn't recommend the shot.

I haven't used Flea Control for about 5 years. The only times we have ever had a flea problem has been after kennel stays. Then I take them in to be bathed and dipped.

Heartgard is about $12 for a 6-mo supply. I use Frontline for flea protection and it runs $30 for a 3-pack. Each vial lasts 2-3 mos for flea protection. It's the best that's out there.

I use the frontline. It works really well. It is kinda expensive here too, but better than fleas!

Year round Heartgard. $12 for box. 6 mos worth, I'm guessing.

Don't use anything for fleas.

I get Frontline Plus online. I get it from the Petshed.com. Their prices are much cheaper then the vets.

Frontline is good for 30 days according to their web-site...

We use Frontline as well & it costs about $12 per vial for a 23-44 lb dog. Use it for about 4 months out of the year.

We use liquide Ivermec once a month for our dogs. I don't know the cost, because it is part of our health maintenance plan for the whole kennel. We only treat for fleas on an as needed basis. Fleas aren't very prevelant around here, so we have rarely needed to do that unless we have traveled to shows in the south or west.

I use Frontline Plus for fleas - about $10 per vial (30 days) from the vet. My dog roams indoors and out without any problems.

My dog gets a shot from the vet every six months for heartworm. We used to use Heartguard but the shot is easier and cheaper so we switched.

Heartguard and frontline

I was a vet tech a few years ago and saw the effects heartworm has on dogs......

If you have dogs..PLEASE...get some sort of heartworm protection. The "treatment" is pretty painful and does not always work!

I just went to petshed.com and they have Valueheart...the generic version of Heartguard. Has anyone heard of its effectiveness? I live in GA, so worms and fleas are everywhere!

If you read the package insert, Frontline Plus states that it kills ticks for 30 days and fleas up to 3 months. I don't apply every 30 days because mine really don't spend that much time outside.
