What do you use for a "gigantic" piggy bank that doesn't break the bank..

We use a big plastic water bottle (like the ones that go onto a water cooler). My DH brought it home from one of his work sites, and it holds a lot!

I'm not a fan of the huge coin containers because of the weight. So I save my pennies in a Disney popcorn bucket and the silver coins go in a 2 quart mason jar. Even those containers are very heavy when full, but at least I can lift them. I keep them in the closet and toss all my change in each night. There's no temptation to raid them on my part because I hate carrying coins around.

We use a clear plastic container that Beef Jerky came in. We just a cut a slit in the top.

We use an animal cracker container. It's a clear plastic bear and we cut a slit in the screw on lid.

We use coffee cans. I get out the construction paper and some of my scrapbooking stuff and let my kids decorate for whatever the savings-purpose is and they doll it all up, then I cut the coin slot in the lid and hot glue it on (no peeking!). The kids all love the surprise of finding out how much they've saved when it is time to cash it in.

We put our change in a small tote. We just zip it up, pick it up and tote it to the bank! We also stuff coins into a Hoops and Yo-Yo bank shaped like a coffee mug that has on it "Liquid Assets". When you put coins in, it provides a funny comment. The contents of this bank, and the Tinkerbell bank, get dumped into the tote before hauling it all off for the count!

I think I'll change things up a bit and start using a clear container like the ones shared on this thread. I think I'll label it Donate for WDW or Donate to help mom keep her sanity!

DH used to keep his change in one of those huge, clear plastic pretzel containers. It was right inside his closet door. We got robbed, it was taken, and I hope the person who lifted it got a hernia as a result because that bad boy was FULL of change

I use an empty laundry detergent jug. It has a nice carrying handle & I just cut a slit in the top. Put it in the laundry room & if I find change in pockets, it goes in the jug. And since the money isn't visible, hopefully no one would steal it if they break in. Looks like it's just sitting out, ready to do laundry. But I do get some funny looks when I carry it in to the credit union to run it through the counter.

We have three 4 gallon water cooler jugs.
One for pennies, one for silver change, and one for singles. We are saving for Alaska though, so we will have to fill all of them to go!
We used to use a gallon ice cream bucket, and when we rolled that up, we figured out to seperate the pennies... they just aren't worth it! lol!

I follow my mom's lead these days. She always kept change in stuff you'd see lying around the house. My personal favorite? A round Quaker Oatmeal box kept in the cereal cabinet! Doesn't hurt that we're Quaker, either!

I was going to suggest an oatmeal box. Seems like a good size to manage and something a little quirky to throw change in. Hadn't even thought of the "security feature" it offered!

we use a large pickle jar that I decorated with Disney stickers and cut a slit in the lid.

The kids like to see it fill up and since their gift cards are in there also they like knowing that 'their' money is safe lol.

I use a five gallon water jug(the ones for water coolers) they now have 2 1/2 gal ones also. I put a cover on mine.. i noticed if i seen the money in the bottom i would tap from it if i dont see it its kinda outa sight out of mind

This is what we do as well. And I'm just the opossite. I like to see how the change is growing. We've been doing it like this for so long that we can judge pretty close to the amount we have. And it really isn't all that heavy. We've had as much as $900 in it and I can still lift it. BTW, we only put silver and bills in this jug. Pennies always go by themselves.

I use a milk jug. When we empty it, I use a permanate marker and always write the date on the jug and how much we had saved up. We reuse the jug for our next trip. Its interesting to look back over the years to see how much we saved and how long it too us to save.

I have the 3 foot coke bottle and I am about 3-4 inches from the top. Won't be much longer. This time I want to fill it completely just to see 1) how long it takes and 2) how much it holds. I think it wsa spring of 2007 or 2008 when I last emptied it (I will look it up once it is empty). I am the only one that "feeds it" so I am looking forward to the count. No, I have no plans for the $$, YET

I found a glass jar at the flea market, and paid a quarter for it. I love change, I love carrying it around, and I love breaking a dollar to get more. I hardly ever spend it. My bf used to get so mad at me for taking his change, most the time he'd keep the quarters and give the rest. That was until we counted it once, and then he started wanting to feed it more and more. I had about $60 in change in the bottom of my bookbag to start it off with that I had been collecting for ages without paying attention to.

We finally managed to fill it, and counted it all out. BTW, the harder it is to get out, the harder it is to steal from. In the end, there was 17lb 4oz of change in it.

We use a quart jar. When it gets full, I count it, put it in a ziploc freezer bag, and move it to the closet. Where it collects. Then, generally, the kids get a call to bring in change for charity and we send in a bag. It never makes it to Disney, but it bought smart boards for school, sent a kid to camp, helped a family whose son was dying of cancer.....

We get bottled water delivered, so we just throw change and $1 bills into the old 5 gallon bottles. It adds up!
