What do you think there are too many adverts about on tv?

Right now, that one is ridiculously easy - politics. TV and streaming and radio must make a boatload of money on the political ads. Only a few more months, then we can get back to the regular disinteresting ads.....

ALL prescription drugs. You can't just go out and buy any of these unless your doctor writes a prescription. It isn't like buying toothpaste, laundry detergent or even a car. I would guess doctors waste a LOT of their time explaining why some drug one of their patients saw on TV isn't right for them.

Seems to me it would be fine to advertise on some medical/professional channel viewed by those involved in health care to create awareness. General ads on TV to the public makes NO sense to me.

Car Protection plans advertised by celebrities.
Probably because I live in California where some are prohibited from doing business because the state found them to be fraudulent operations.
Amazing what you find in the fine print.

In the US? Antidepressants. In the UK? Depends on the channel and what's on. No medication adverts though, none at all and almost no political adverts.

I agree that the prescription drug commercials are way out of hand.
Two things:
1) Do we have drugs now for conditions that never existed before they had the drug?
2) Are some of the side effects are far far worse than the condition they treat.

Camp Lejeune/9 11 lawsuits, life insurance, Medicare supplements, prescription drugs.

Nothing...

I don't watch TV so there's not too much of anything on TV for me.

I pay for radio and YouTube so I don't get advertisements there either.

I hate advertisements.

So many of all kinds. I don't watch them much. I sit with the remote on my hand most of the time (when I do sit). As soon as a commercial pops up, I will switch channel and surf (is that the word). I also might lower the volume right away, find them loud. I also use the opportunity to get up and do something quick, grab something, etc. etc.

There are times when I can't change channel - there are way too many in between programs. My grandson loves to watch some game shows (babysit) and one time we decided to count the commercials. 12. Crazy/too many....

I hadn't ever thought about it in this way but you are right. Good post

Yeah, I've never understood this. I don't go to my doctor and tell them what drugs I want - I expect my doctor to tell me if a drug would be beneficial to me. Of course pharma companies also press doctors to push certain ones, but I trust that they are still an appropriate remedy for a given condition.

The one's that I see too much of are these various Ad Council spots on cable channels. Sometimes it seems like every commercial is one PSA after anotehr and they play the same ones every break. They are repetitive and also SO BAD. Man! The government spends all this money on these terrible commercials? If you're gonna do that at least hire the GEICO guys or something!
