What do you think of today's pop music?

If the person can actually sing through the mouth and not the nose, it's OK. But the nasal crap being sold as music is pathetic, IMO. And the stuff where someone just sort of talks along to the music (maybe has a range of 3-4 notes) - and I'm not talking rap - give me a break. Multiple verses of repetitive, kindergarten sight words, ugh.

Don't get me started on autotune!

I like some of today’s music, but I definitely prefer 80s music, like U2, Duran Duran, new kids, etc and 90s grunge like Pearl Jam, Guns N Roses and Nirvana.
I’ve played 80s music for the kids but they don’t care for it. They like Imagine Dragons, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and kids bop. Maybe we tend to like music in the years we were kids?

I listen to American Top 40 the Seventies every weekend. Today was from 1974.....# 1 was Then Came You by Dionne Warwick and the Spinners...loved all 40 songs.

I disagree about past pop music. I still listen to pop from the '50s, '60s, '70s and'80s and I think it holds up well. I just don't think the pop music of today will be played in 40-50 years except for a few songs that are more well known. People tend to listen to their own genre these days so Top 40 means almost nothing. When I was growing up almost everybody had at least heard the most popular songs. Today most of the songs that hit #1 on the pop charts, I've never even heard of. That was pretty unthinkable during the Casey Kasem era unless you were REALLY out of it.

But, if you go back and look at EVERYTHING that came out of those eras, only a tiny fraction of it survives in regular airplay today. Take even a monster act like Michael Jackson. Outside of his devoted fans, there probably aren't more than 5 or 6 of his songs that most people would care to hear today.

I take it you are NOT a Luke Bryan fan :rotfl2:

I'm okay with any music I can dance to, sing along, etc. I especially like music where the lyrics are something that I am currently feeling. I am big on music "therapy."

I don't listen to him regularly, but his voice is fine. A bit nasal in that country way, but I'm talking Britney Spears 'holding her nose pinched shut' nasal. It's easier to sing through the nasal cavities - it takes skill and training to sing properly, for most people. And even those with fantastic voices need to train/practice to keep the voice strong and safe.

I love concerts, and, if you can't sing live *decently*, I'm probably not going to listen to you. Performance is fine, dancing is fine, but you are supposed to be a *singer*.

Although, honestly, I'm also watching the guitar players (especially the bass). They tend to keep their skills a lot longer than the lead singer does. Example: Guns n Roses concert, you could tell they were autotuning the crap out of Axl Rose's voice, but I was there to watch Slash, so it was ok.

I would love to see some of these so called "singers" stand in one place and just sing their song a capella.

I think it needs more cheerleaders. I mean, if the backup dancers aren't waving pom poms at some point, I'm just not down.

I like old music and I like new music, i think everyone got it right

I personally feel that majority of the music being put out is just awful. I hate it. I stopped listening to the radio a few years ago. There are a few good ones, usually once or twice a year.

If you are talking about stuff like Ed Sheeran... :crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2:
The man does not even have a voice.

And, I am just SO over the divas like Taylor Swift and Beyonce.... also :crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2:

There is some good stuff out there! Even the younger stuff!
Can't over-generalize and lump everything together.

I have literally never even heard of any of the artists in the OP's post. I have no intention of listening to the songs. I generally dislike most recent music, though some of it is ok. Usually when I hear something I like it never gets that big. The decent stuff seems to be ignored.

We have muzak at work. All the songs sound the same. One long and loud note in every song. Continuous repetition of lyrics. Usually turn the muzak off.

I used to get in trouble for turning off the music at work or changing to better songs. :lmao:
