I wouldn't be offended by a kid in a pimp costume. I'd just think their parents had no sense whatsoever.

I highly doubt that an 11 didn't know what the outfit was, unless that child is a shelter one.

I have a 12 year old daughter and 9 year old son. I find this kind of outfit in bad taste. Now, if my husband chose it for himself, I'd laugh all the night long...

First, I wasn't offended it would take a lot more than that...I'm from NY!
And have you had many conversations with a six year old lately, I have had numerous, none of which have anything to do with pimps or the like. So I just can't imagine how you could possibly have a conversation about being a pimp for halloween with a child that isn't able to spell the word prostitute.
Second, I really don't know what your being in "praise band" has to do with my opinion on appropriate choices for small childrens halloween costumes in school?

I actually associate the word pimp with rap music and think more of a slimeball than what the word used to mean. I think Snoop Dog not an actual guy who sells women for their um, talents.

Well I am not offended by it but I would think that the parents were morons with no morals to even think that was okay for a child.

Not sure what you are getting at about praise band at church but if it encourages pimp dressing I will make sure to keep my kids out of church praise band. What kind of church finds kids big pimpin' okay anyway?

the frat boys from the local university turned up last year as nuns-in the old style full blown head to toe habits. to their credit they behaved very respectfully, and depending on the quality of the candy you were handing out you might get anything from a polite thank-you to a full blown blessing of your home and 'the hands that have that have brought forth the delightful consumable offerings'

Since you mention that my friends and I dressed as prostitutes one yr. I think we were probably 14ish maybe. We went to one of our guy friends trick or treating and he donned a hat and coat and went as our pimp. I have pictures somewhere.

Honestly we were just dressing up with all of the old shiny dresses, wigs, jewelry, and make up. It was fun. We were not out to solicit people for sex.

Then again this was a time you could get a beer from someone when you were trick or treating.

Now of course everything was "homemade". I don't think we ever bought a costume in the store and had to come up with our own.

I told my 14yo, "no pimp costumes!" I explained to him what a pimp actually does and he understood.

With all the choices of what to be, I see no reason to allow or encourage my kids to dress as a character that demoralizes women. You can be a zombie or even "Freddie" but these do not exist IRL so no harm, no offense. I also do not let me daughter t or t in anything she would not be allowed to wear to school (spag straps, belly showing, etc.) She is going as a hippie this year and will look great without showing off her goods
