What do you think of the "Disney Vault" ?

Whoever came up with that idea is a genius, and should get a $10 million dollar bonus. It keeps movies from going to the $5 bin, it makes re-releases an event, and it encourages people to buy the movie when it comes out and don't wait. Most studios want every penny they can get now and shoot themselves in the foot by undermining the price with over production. However, Disney wisely will forgo some sales to keep the value up and make the next release a bigger event.

It's a hoax...does that count as an opinion?

They've released so many versions of Cinderella and the little mermaid on DVD that they're running out of precious stones/metals to name them after...

LOl! This is so true! I still fall for the hype though.. lol

I don't think it is a effective in today's market as say the 90's. Now, I think that many children just don't see some of the much beloved movies there parents saw. There are so many movies and DVDs and franchises that I think Disney is missing out.

It's a genius piece of marketing and I think it will become increasingly relevant as more and more consumers switch to digital only video formats. Using the digital format, Disney can shut off the supply at any time without waiting on a lingering stock to sell. Plus they can add supplement materials for an upcharge.

As a fan, it gets annoying at times. Sometimes I get a hankering to watch a classic that I don't own and they are sometimes difficult to find to buy. Most of the time I just end up going without and by the time it is released the feeling has passed. But it really doesn't matter. In other ways it helps me as a fan. I have to prioritize so I only get the movies I absolutely love.

It was clever when it was originated in what...the 80s? There is very little that isn't available on the re-sellers market via Ebay, Amazon, local brick & mortar stores that sell used media. Every time Disney product is moved through those channels, that's a loss for the company. There are likely illegal means of obtaining the material, more loss. Fortunately for me I was an early adopter of VHS, then DVD, and now Blu-ray so I bought while the material was available.
