What do you think of Stouffer's Lasagna?

Dh loves lasagna, but I don't like to make it myself, so I buy the Stouffers meat lasagna and we love it, especially DH. I am very picky about things like this, but the Stouffer's is really good. I think the only thing I have had from Stouffer's that we didn't like are the Chicken Enchilades.

Stouffer's all the way!!! We Stouffer's lasagna at our house. Please save yourself the grief and aggravation and go with the Stouffer's. Homemade is great, but it is very time consuming and expensive, at least the way I make it is and I only do that once a year for DH's B-Day.

Stouffer's = low stress situation!

Personally, I would make it myself. I have on several occassions premade lasagnas and put them in the freezer until the day before the event.

I can make two lasagnas with one box of noodles. Get the cheese and pasta sauce on sale. I avoid ricotta because my kids don't like it, but it will help alleviate the cost too.

Not a fan of the frozen stuff, but in a pinch, it would definitely work for you.

OP, I would go with baked ziti before I would do a frozen lasagna.

My family loves Stouffers lasagna and although homemade may be better convenience wise Stouffers is great. Maybe you should buy a single serve one and try first and see what you think.

from OP- Thanks everyone. I know that I am making 1-2 of the lasagnas and mine turn out really good, but I don't want to make all 4. I am also setting up this dinner, so don't want to give myself too many jobs. Maybe if no one on my list wants to make homemade, I will suggest the stouffers. I do like their mac and cheese.

Lasagna is so easy to make if you use the no boil lasagna noodles. I use the Barilla brand. I also buy the large can of pasta sauce from Sam's (about 3.xx) and doctor it up with some fresh garlic and basil and oregano and a little water to thin it because of the no boil noodles need moisture. The can of sauce would be enough for at least 2 or 3 lasagnas pans. Sam's or Costco's big bag of cheese and ricotta would be enough for several lasagnas also. I think Stouffer's is ok for home but I don't think I would serve it at a function. Baked ziti would be super easy to make.

I am in charge of a church dinner for 25 people that has a planned menu. So far I am having trouble getting people to donate the main dish lasagna or baked ziti. I think it's easy to make, but I guess others don't. Someone mentioned to me to get the meat or veg. lasagna from Stouffer's, but how does it taste?

It's terrible. Lasagna is supposed to be made with love, it's a comfort dish to me, and Stouffer's isn't made with any love.

definatly doesnt taste "home made" but it doesnt taste bad either. My mom buys big things of it at sams club a lot for family gatherings bc there are so many people.

ive been known to buy it and some garlic bread and a salad and good meal that feeds my hubby for several days after on leftovers!

I don't think it tastes particularly good, but I'm of the opinion that if you asked and nobody offered to help, frozen is fine. Anyone who complains is automatically appointed chair of next year's event and can run it how they see fit.

Costco used to carry Michelangelo's brand. That was pretty good. It is now carried in some grocery stores, and I think Sam's, but not sure. But Kirkland is good, too. I agree with others--Stauffer's borders on nasty.

I have to laugh as I post this.

If you have ever ordered Lasagna from Applebee's (several years ago, I don't even know if it is still on the menu anywhere) it is Stouffers with a slice of melted provolone cheese on top.

We had people come in and rave about the lasagna and we all giggled behind the scenes.

Okay in a pinch, but definitely not a fresh lasagna.

My concern would be heating it all up. But in a pinch, it would be fine. If people complain, I might suggest that next time they can, I don't know...help and contribute their own dish.

I don't find homemade all that time consuming--but when making a bunch of it, if you aren't getting help, I wouldn't hesitate to go "instant".

My family and I like Stouffer's frozen lasagna, and we have it about once a month. I do prefer my own lasagna, but I rarely have the time to make it.

It is bad if you cook it in the microwave though, rather than the regular oven.

No, it's not potluck. I made a menu of lasagna/ziti, salad, breads, desserts and beverages and people are signing up to bring those things. With only 7-8 food volunteers, I did not want to do potluck. We are serving a meal to those going on a mission trip. The food donaters are parents of some of the teens going on the trip.

It's okaaaay in a pinch, but honestly "homemade" lasagna is so easy to make with the Mueller's no-boil noodles and a few jars of good sauce.

Could you do the 2 you were planning on doing and maybe do 2 trays of Ziti? I wouldnt hesitate at all to do ziti... that is SO easy! Maybe you would have better luck if you try to get someone to throw a ziti together!

Sometimes my MIL invites everyone over for a 'special' dinner and we cross our fingers that it is not her Stouffer's lasagna and baked potato combo...no salad or green veggie. Two starches. Oh, and bread. THREE starches. I can barely choke it all down.

One Christmas I made a beautiful homemade lasagna- I admit it took over 3 hours, because I made my own sauce from scratch (never do it- like once every 3 years, lol) and used provolone, mozz. and white cheddar cheeses- it was a masterpiece if I do say so myself! It was gone in an instant, but MIL ate only a tiny corner and announced that she prefers hers, but mine was 'okay, if you don't know where to get the one she makes'!!
