We are thinking of staying here for 7 or 8 nights in Aug. Since we are from the east coast, we would probably do 4 or 5 days at DL and then spend some time at the beach or sightseeing. Our children will be 11 and 7. I know it is further from the parks, but it looks a little nicer than some of the suites near the main entrance. ( Staying in a suite is a must) Also the free breakfast would be good. What would a kids suite cost in August and what do you think of this hotel compared to the closer ones?

We just stayed there a couple of weeks ago in the Penthouse suite and continue to love the place. Excellent hot breakfast with many items, managers special in the evening, the will go get grocery items for you, just under 1/2 mile easy walk to the parks, ART stops there if you do not want to walk. We have stayed there the last few years and will not stay anywhere else except for GC.
Our room rate was $139.00/night except for 1 night at $189.00 AAA and Marriott discount. Any more questions, please ask.

I think the Residence Inn Maingate is a great choice, especially for a longer stay like that. Yes, the walk is further, but in the mornings it is very doable, especially for the age of your kids (my youngest is 4 and we had to carry her part of the way - good thing she's a peanut). In the evening it's a bit tiresome, so we always caught the ART, which I found to be very reliable, although sometimes it felt a bit inconvenient.

The breakfast alone will save you a ton of $$$. Lots of choices for everyone!! It was nice to have a kitchen too. We usually would leave the area and go to lunch somewhere down Harbor, El Pollo Loco, Baja Fresh, etc., and it was nice to be able to heat up leftovers in the oven. Never did any actual real cooking, but you certainly could. You can fill out a grocery shopping form and they will pick up stuff for you for no extra charge.

The pool area is very nice. There are also Jacuzzis in several spots around the property. We had one right outside our door, so it felt like our own private one:love:

Next time we go we are going to be trying Desert Inn & Suites. Although I know it won't be as nice as the RI and no free breakfast, we're going during a very busy time and I want everything to be as convenient as possible, especially going back to the hotel for naps. That would be the only downside to me for the RI, since we usually caught the ART, naps had to be planned carefully (since the ART takes an afternoon break).

Hope you have a great time!!

I did not know that the ART does not run in the afternoon. What are the hours in the summer ?
