What do you think of Pottery Barn, Ethan Allen and Crate and Barrel furniture quality

Oh and Z-Gallerie!

I need to buy a Queen Bed frame, two side tables, a mirror and a desk. All these stores have sets I actually could see myself getting. Does anyone have a personal opinion on the furniture quality of these stores? Basically whatever I buy needs to last at least 5 years. Ethan Allen looks to be the most expensive in this list. Is the quality that much better?

I personally love Pottery Barn. I think that their quality is just fine. Ethan Allen has a great reputation of course but I don't know a thing about Crate and Barrel.

I'm jealous! I love shopping for the home.

bumping.. I just ordered a PB desk and am thinking about the avalon table and chairs from crate and barrel, so I am curious to see what you hear back!

I think EA is worth it. I still have the bedroom set we bought when we got married 14 years ago. Still looks beautiful. You definately get what for you pay for with EA. Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel doesn't last that well, IMO. Everything I've bought there, has "died" in a couple of years.

Z Gallerie is great too. I've bought many smaller things from them over the years and I can't complain. Unfortunately our local store closed so I haven't been in a while.

Last December I purchased a leather sofa from Ethan Allen for DD20's apartment. She takes very good care of her stuff and we fully expect that sofa to last 15+ years. It may not always be in the living room depending on what her decor is, may be in the family room, rec room, etc. I paid quite a bit of money........and my daughter LOVES her sofa! No food allowed while sitting there, no feet, etc.

I love Ethen Allen stuff!!!!

As far as Pottery Barn is concerned, I am bit "meh" about it. I ordered a coffee Table (the Rhys, I think). When it arrived, the finish had already begun to chip in some places. I was pretty annoyed but rather than send it back I just encourage people to put their feet up on it to give it a distressed look. On the other hand, my mom has a huge hutch and some bedroom furniture that she has been very happy with.

My bedroom set is Ethan Allen (the British Colonial) line, and I LOVE IT!!!! I bought the bed and armoire. I was a bit apprehensive about buying Ethan Allen at first because I had heard from many people that the quality, while really good, isn't what it used to be 30years ago. However, I have no complaints. The bed is solid and still looks brand new.

I don't know anything about the other two companies, but based on my experience, I would go with Ethan Allen. Have fun on your search!

My two favorite furniture stores are Ethan Allen and Thomasville. You can find solid pieces that last longer.

We bought our first pieces of furniture from a local chain and the quality isn't that great, but with kids I knew I wanted to replace them some day.

We have a Crate and Barrel sofa. It is called Lounge. It is great and everyone loves it. We have gotten many compliments as to its appearance and comfort.

It depends what you get at Pottery Barn. When we were shopping for beds for our kids we looked closely at PB Kids and some were basically cheap plywood, and some were real hardwood. You really have to see the furniture in person.

I personally think that Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel are really overpriced. A lot of their furniture isn't even real and/or solid wood. We own quite a bit of furniture from them, but I'm not really greatly impressed with anything.... I grew up in a house with a lot of Ethan Allen furniture. I have no idea how much my parents paid, but it all looked really nice... It's also lasted a long time.

Ethan Allen's quality is better, without a doubt. When you compare the prices of the furniture and then add in PB's crazy shipping and setup charges (Ethan Allen doesn't charge for that), EA is really only a tiny bit more expensive.

NOBODY has cuter bedding than PB Kids, in my opinion.

Ethan Allen quality is far superior to Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel. My mom's entire house is Ethan Allen and it is high quality 'lifetime' furniture. She's had pieces 10+ years. My dining set is from there and looks brand new after 5 or so years.

I have many Pottery Barn pieces and nearly all of them are MDF instead of solid wood. I have the Benford desks and while I love them we did go though at least 3 file cabinets and 2 tops before getting ones that the MDF wasn't damaged. Pottery Barn exchanged them with no issue but it was still frustrating.

My coffee table and a sideboard type cabinet are also from there. They are both sold wood but it is pine so if one of the kids writes too hard or bounces a hard toy on the table it shows.

DD's bed is from there and so far it has been good but she is not even two!

I don't think I have anything from Crate and Barrel furniture wise but I'd compare them to Pier One maybe.
