What do you think is breakdown of all-direct, all-resale, and mixed-direct/resale owners?

New Riviera resort member here. I’ve been reading all these threads for over a year now before purchasing. I was just wondering, what percentage of people do you think have only direct points, versus people with all resale points, versus people with a mix of both. From reading this board, you would think the majority of owners have some portion as resale, but I imagine this group is somewhat unique/selected out. Perhaps the majority of owners are direct points only. Not judging anyone, just interesting to think about. Thanks!

I think the bulk of members own direct points only. This board is a very small group of DVC owners but within this community, I would say more resale owners than typical.

I myself have a mix of points.
I agree with Sandisw. I think your average DVC owner bought onsite, and has no idea that the resale community even exists. I do think the resale group is larger than the group here on Disboards, but I'm betting it makes up a small percentage of Direct owners -- especially when you factor in the number of us who have both. I also have both direct and resale points, though the majority of my points are resale.

I think the most have bought direct only, then bought direct and resale and then just resale. If I had to guess on numbers it would be 60, 35, 5

I agree.
Educated buyers on this board usually making better informed decisions.

On this board you will see a lot more direct+resale, out there probably a greater mix of direct only and resale only.
75% direct only
10% d+r
15% resale only

I agree with others. Probably the majority are direct. All of my points were bought directly from Disney. I know people preach about it being better deal to buy resale; but if you buy when they are first selling, it can be a pretty good deal. My BLT points were purchased for $97/pp. I have used them for 11 years and could sell for a profit now. My CCV points were $163/pp. That is not too far above the current resale. Plus, I was able to break the points into two identical contracts with the same UY as my BLT contract. Oh, and the instant gratification of having the points right away - I love that.

Yeah I have no regrets about buying our first two AKV contracts direct which was somewhere in the 90's at the time. As direct prices have gotten higher and higher though it gets harder for me to justify. A lot of that is because of our travel habits we rarely book 11 months out, almost always at 7 months. So we look for SAP and SSR tends to be the best value for SAP still. So we end up saying do we spend a lot more for direct that really only gives us a longer contract, or save up front capital and buy resale SSR SAP.

One thing I will say though is after dealing with a resale that has gone really smoothly and it is still going to take about 90 days from offering being made to points in account, there is some value of calling your guide and having your new points in your account the same day (with matching UY and normally last years points)
