What do you serve with soup?

I'm having some friends over and I'm making soup. What goes good with this (other than bread).

I'm prob making minestrone if that makes a difference!

i'd keep the bread, but make it bruscetta (sp?). Or that really hard crusty bread.

I can't imagine what else I'd serve it with.

There is a recipe on the outside of Bisquick baking mix box for garlic cheese biscuits. Very easy and fast. They are a heavy biscuit too. If you have ever been to Red Lobster, the cheddar biscuits they serve there, these are it!

Also, I know you said not bread, but if you have a bread machine, there is a recipe for applecider bread that you make in the bread machine. SO YUMMY, it is kinda a sweet bread. Let me know if you want the recipe.

I was actually looking for something in addition to bread, not instead of it. Cheddar biscuits sound yummy.

Grilled cheese sandwiches or a small house salad with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and onions.

APPLE CIDER CINNAMON BREAD---for the bread machine

This recipe makes a 1 1/2lb loaf and is a heavy bread


Ingredients--


1 1/4 cup apple cider (at room temp)
2 TBSP butter, softened
3 cups white bread flour
2 TBSP brown sugar, packed
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp.ground cinnamon
2 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast (I used 1 of the packaged yeast)


Directions--

Place ingredients in the bread machine in the order suggested by the manufacturer of your machine. Select sweet setting, recommend using the light crust setting and start machine. ENJOY!


I got this recipe last year from a site called www.cdkitchen.com
From what I remember, there were quite a few bread machine recipes there.

This bread also tastes great with chili.

If you are making the minestrone, how about a nice antipasto platter, with meats, cheese, peppers, olives, etc?

Some kind of Sandwich and a salad- I could never just serve bread and soup--unless you are just having that as an appetizer.

Sandwiches (hot or cold) go well with soup, as do salads.
