What do you say when you see a baby that's not so cute?

"Well, at least you know he/she will have a great personality."

Seriously, I remark about a positive feature - hair, eyes, or if there's really nothing positive about it, I say how sweet the baby is. I'm not a good liar, so if I say the baby is cute or pretty, the lie will show on my face.

I worked with a guy who looked like Grandpa Munster and when he had a baby that kid looked JUST like him....he took out the picture and one of the guys at work and he said "whoooaaaaa that baby looks just like a baby grandpa munster",,,on the other hand my neighbor had a baby and the first time she looked at him she started to cry, she said he was the ugliest baby in the world and he looked like a monkey...he had these long legs and arms and big giant feet and a small body...but I athought he was pretty cute!

I say " There's a future heartbreaker" Because they say that beautiful babies grow up to be - well not so beautiful and Ugly babies grow up to be beautiful;)

I still say he/she is cute...it's what parents want to hear. Reminds me of the story of when my eldest niece was a baby (she was really adorable) but was born with a hematoma abover her eye (it went away)...my SIL was in a store with her a lady said in Spanish to her friend "That baby looks like E.T"...well, my SIL is Cuban and understood her. Wasn't that woman shocked when my SIL told her off in SPANISH.

Did anyone think that their own babies weren't cute when they were born?

DS was a scheduled c-section, 11 lbs and pretty blue when he was delivered. He was taken by the peds folks as soon as he came out so they could "work" on him before I saw him at all...my husband kept exclaiming, "Oh, he's so beautiful...he's so cute..." When he was finally shown to me, I thought "Not!"...he was blue and his face was all scrunched up from having been squeezed in a too small place way too long. The just born pictures didn't look a thing like the pictures taken even the next day. He turned out to be exceptionally beautiful (IMO) and still is, but he sure wasn't at first!

I was wondering if someone would bring up that old Flip Wilson routine.
:hyper:

Fo ranyone who's ever missed it.

A woman got on a bus holding a baby.

The busdriver said: "That's the ugliest baby I've ever seen."

In a huff, the woman slammed her fare into the fare box and
took an aisle seat near the rear of the bus.

The man seated next to her sensed that she was aggitated and
asked her what was wrong.

"The busdriver insulted me" she fumed.

The man sympathized and said: "Why, he's a public servant and
shouldn't say things to insult passengers."

"You're right" she said. "I think I'll go back up there and
give him a piece of my mind."

"That's a good idea" the man said. "Here, let me hold your monkey."

One of my nephews was a pretty homely baby (and child). Someone told his mother "He's so homely that he's cute"

My poor son had horrible eczyma (sp) as an infant. His skin was red and scaly. His ears still stick out (and he is proud of them). I used to get the rudest comments from strangers. People would walk right up and ask what was wrong with him. Can't tell you how many times people informed me he had the chicken pox! His face, arms, legs & hands cleared up after a couple of years. Had an acquaintance approach me a after his face had cleared up and pronounce that I must be so releived that his skin cleared up. This woman is a doctor with 4 kids of her own!!!!! It took until DS was 7 (2 summers ago) for his feet to stop being scaly and cracked - they would actually bleed. Finally FDA approved a new med that cleared him up in a matter of days. ($150 a tube for that cream - worth every penny.) I was just thankful that DS was too young to understand what these people were talking about.
BTW - his skin is milky smooth now.

I don't say anything, I don't care for babies, period. They are annoying and boring, and I think most of them look alike!
