What do you pay for afterschool care if you have to pay????

We pay $330 per month for before and after care till 6pm and it's held in the school cafeteria. Our school is closed 1/2 day on Fridays so that's included. They are also open on snow days. A snack is provided each day after school. In July and Aug it goes up to $475/mo for the summer program. I like it- they are open pretty much all the time and DS doesn't need to get on a bus or leave the school- He just gets walked downstairs.

Our schools charge $3 for morning care (opening at 6:00 until school starts at 8:30) and charge $6 for aftercare (starting at 3:20 when school ends until 6:00). Subsequent children are half off of that price. So for one child...you'd pay $45 for AM and PM care for a week, and each additional child would add on another $22.50.

I get an even better deal because I'm a teacher with the county. I get half off what it costs everyone else, so my first child would be $22.50 per week, and each of my other kids are $11.25 each.

I actually don't use them everyday, but on the days I use them, I'm thinking I get a GREAT bargain.

Do you have to pay weekly, no matter if you use them or not? Fortunately, I only pay for the days that I use them.

My dd's before care is $20/month (7:00 am - 8:00 am) and $100/month (3:00 - 6:00 pm), charged as a flat rate. It's $15 per day for drop-ins. She is in private school so maybe that's why the cost is less.
I looked a new school that was charging $6.00 per hour which would have ran me about $400 a month.

I only need care every other Friday so I pay $20 per kid for each Friday I need care. After school starts at 1:30 on Fridays & they have to be picked up by 6pm. Regular days (3:30 release until 6pm) are $10/kid & there's a 10% break if you need the entire month. Its done through the school which I like because they don't have to get on a bus or anything. There is no before-school care & no care on school holidays, early release days or summers.
I did briefly consider having a friend pick them up & keep them as I technically only need care from 1:30-3 when I get off work (DH is off every other Friday & picks them up on those Fridays) but I like having those few hours to go to the grocery store, get my hair cut, etc.
I am possibly looking at doing a lot of substitute teaching next school year & I think I'll keep them at every other Friday care so I don't have to turn down jobs because of lack of care. Even 1 day of work on those Fridays would pay for that day of care with money left over.

I run a before school program at our elementary school. We charge $6/day - payable monthly. We open at 7:30 a.m. and school starts at 9:30 a.m. We close on vacation days and snow days, but are open on delayed opening days. Next year we will start an after school program, but not sure what the charge will be.

We charge our families $3.50 per hour, per child. Our Before and afterschool Program is at each elemntary school in our district and also at the Middle school. The Morning Program runs from 7:30 - 8:30 at $3.50 per hour. I only bill the familes for what they attend, its according to their attendance. Our Afterschool Programs runs from 3pm-5pm. Kids can either take the late bus home, with a limited bus route, or be picked up. We charge a yearly $10 registration fee per child or $25 for a family of 3 or more kids. There are some families that use it once a week or everyday. Just afternoon or both morning and afterschool. We also have a family discount - kind of like a "buy one, get one half off kind of deal"...

We do not operate on Early Release days, delayed starts, Holidays or Teacher Workshop days. We are basically an extension of a regular school day, with certfied teachers and assistants for Homework and literacy activities. Enrichment clubs are offered as well as physical activities, outside partners and Computer Labs. We will try a summer prpgram next summer; a grant requirement.

We also offer reduced fees according to their Free/Reduced lunch program status and what not. We also accept state fund reimbursments for Title 20 or Childcare scholarship funds. Our programs originally started as a 21st Century Community Learning Centers/Dept of Education Grant, but has gained support in part by local tax payers and the school districts.

It is very important to help keep kids safe during the afterschool hours - they are known as the High Risk hours. My son is almost 8 and I would hate for him to be home every afternoon for 2 hours beofre we get home from work. Its the price we pay to keep our babies safe and healthy!

Last year I paid $10.00 per day, including early dismissal days (every Wednesday). That was at DS's elementary school

This year, I decided that I couldn't handle commuting an hour and a half round trip to pick up DS each afternoon so I hired a college student babysitter 3 days a week for $15 an hour. On Wednesdays he still goes tp his aftercare at his school, but now it's $10.50 for 1:30 to 6:30. On Mondays he goes home with a friend (free, my babysitter watches their child on Tuesdays).

I have looked at other schools for next year, and have seen prices from $450 to $660 for before and aftercare, somewhat less for just aftercare.

do you want to know something that is amazing to me?? My DD is in Kind. and my DS is in first. Her day technically ends at 12:30 and his ends at 3. They had a sign up sheet at the beginning of the year if parents would like the Kind. kids to stay until 3 for no extra charge. It is wonderful! they have nap time, enrichment time and snack time and it costs nothing!! and this way I can get both of my kids at the same time!:thumbsup2

The school I work at has the before & after care. If you want before care that is from 6:00-8:30 and it is $35 per week flat fee, no per day fees.. same thing for the after care. 3:30-6:00 $35 flat fee. That is for the first child, second child is 1/2.

Isnt it great to have that??! You are very fortunate - consider yourself lucky!!:cloud9: We have 2 places right near DSs elementary school. One is a chruch across the school yard and the other is the Early Childhood Education class across the parking lot at the high school. The ECE has a preschool cirriculum in the AM and also offers the same thing for Kindergarten; They drop off and pick up kids from morning or afternoon kindergarten... But for a price. Its a great thing to have!! I feel very fortunate we have this in our area!

our elementary school has part time aftercare 2-4 for $2.25 a day and full time 2-6 for close to $3.00 a day. I havent used it put was considering it for the fall if I took a school nurse position. I decided against it after finding out the pay and having to pay for aftercare on top of it. I would only need it one day a week when dh is on shift and they wont consider it. I would have to pay the full amount for either 2-4 or 2-6..

Aftercare for my kind. dd runs 5 per day. She takes the public school bus to the church school (where after care is), gets a snack and can stay until 5:30 (Kind is out at 2:15). I usually have her picked up by 3:30, but I still think the 5 bucks is a bargain.

Aftercare for my twins who are in Pre3 is 10 per day plus 2 for lunch (per child). Meaning on any two hour preschool day, for 12 extra dollars, they can basically be daycare kiddos and be there anywhere from 6 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.. Another bargain in my opinion for what has been WONDERFUL, loving care.

They are also very flexible with my work schedule in terms of adding days.

We recently relocated from the east coast. When we were back east, we were paying 2 1/2 times what we pay here for childcare. Preschool costs are about the same.

Summertime childcare will be 15 per child per day plus 2 per lunch if you want it provided. They do provide 2 snacks per day.

$11 per day for just after school and $13 for both b4 and after. Expensive but necessary.

I charge $80.00/week for before and after school care for children that are in 1st grade or higher. This fee includes breakfast and an after school snack as well as transportation to/from school. On days when the children are in my care all day (holidays, snow days, vacations), I charge $30.00 for that day instead of $16.00. Kindergarten is 1/2 day here so I charge my full rate of $150.00.

It may seem like a lot for the b/a school children but I am only allowed to have a specific amount of children in my care at any one point. The b/a school children are taking spots that I can fill with full time children for twice as much.

My rate is still below what the daycare centers around here charge. Most of our school offer b/a school care for children in 1st-5th for less. I think that they have a reg. fee of $40.00 and a weekly supply fee of $10.00 plus $60.00 for the first child and 1/2 for the second. Parents that use this "club" must have a flexible schedule because they only provide care on days when the children attend school. There is no care during holidays, institute days, vacations... We recently had two snow days. Since the schools were closed, the parents had to find someone else to watch their children.

I'm in a suburb of Chicago.

My DD7 goes to Catholic School $1 a day for before care and $5 a day for after care. She only goes to aftercare on Mondays (school ends at 2:30 pm) I'm ususally there by 2:45 and they almost NEVER charge me for aftercare, but its great thats it there if/when I need it.

I spend $145 a month for after-school care through a local group that operates programs at each elementary school. They include half days, do not run on snow days or early dismissal, and charge extra by the day for full-day care on vacation days. They also have a before-school program, but I haven't used it, so I forget what they charge for that. They have a summer program that's about $140 per week, which is expensive to me, but which seems to be pretty standard for all-day summer care around here. DD loves the program and I've found that year after year, the staff has been excellent.

My dd doesn't go to before /afterschool but my friend's child does and we were just talking about it. I know before school is offered 7am to 8:10 which includes breakfast then the kids either go or are taken to their classrooms. I think she said this was $6 a day but doesn't use it. Afterschool is 2:15 until 4:15 for $12 a day or 2:15-5:30 for $14 a day. One a month there is early release at 12:30 and I think that was an extra $4. Drop ins are not allowed with a twice weekly minimum required with set days. Sliding scale fee is offered if you qualify and sign up for at least 3 days.

Our school has afterschool "clubs" everyday from 3 pm until 5 pm. The fee is 7 dollars per child per day. I only send my kids twice a week because they want to actually go to them, but I would send them everyday if they would go because it gives me more time to finish up my work (I work from home) and they actually have to do their homework there.

Our aftercare program doesn't operate on half days, snow days, or vacation days. They have a summer program that is super expensive that runs 3 hours a day. It's really stupid because obviously the people utlizing the program are working parents who need childcare everyday.

Exactly why I didn't go with the aftercare program at the school. I need someone who knows I still have to work sometimes if my kids have a snowday. I teach, but not in the district my children attend. So, sometimes we get a foot or more where I live, but they get nothing where I work (gotta love lake effect). All breaks don't shore up the same either, nor do all in service/conference days. I needed a full day every now and again and none of the worries assocatiated with before/after programs that only follow school calanders or rake you over the coals with way too high prices.

We are in rural Kansas and I pay $25 a week per child and I have 2 in the after school program.

It runs about $200 a month.

During the summer it will be $90 a week per child.

DS goes to a private school. Before school care is free, as early as 7:30. After school care is $1.25 for the first hour, I think .50 or .75 an hour after that until 6:00.

They do not charge more than $25 for two weeks, no matter what it adds up to.
