I plan on buying resale but I'm torn between VWL ,BWV and SSR for the treehouses. So what made you decide on your home resort?

When we first looked there was only OKW, but when we bought BWV were also available. We rented points from DH's boss ($3/pt in 1998) and stayed in a 2 bdrm OKW for 2 nights and then a 1 bdrm for 5 nights at BWV. It was quite a shocked moving down in room size :scared1: With 3 little ones 2, 4 and 7 we really liked the room plus the balcony size at OKW was so much larger than BWV.

Along with that we had a not so great stay at BWV. Top floor, end of hallway with 2 kids in a stroller, plus we had several problems - some were Disney's fault and some not. Door to the breaker box fell on DS2 and cut him; Disney's fault. Same DS swallowed dish detergent; both our faults since they stored in under the sink at BWV and up high at OKW and I didn't have time to check it out. Happened while I was unpacking. And DH wasn't watching him. Everything was OK in the end, but we haven't been back to BWV since.

So answer your question - we love the size of the villas and balconies at OKW the best. No other villas can compare. Plus they have the most activities for our teens.

OKW was the only resort available when we bought. Still love the size of the rooms above all other resorts. There will never be that size rooms in DVC resorts again!

We are in the process of purchasing SSR, just waiting to close. When weighing all the options, the combination of the length of contract, the Treehouses, MF fees, and the proximity to DTD tilted the scales in SSR's favor. We definitely enjoy the resort and are very happy to be owners there.

We purchased BCV for its location to Epcot and SAB for our grandchildren to use, and have VWL so we can have the ability to book there 11 months out for the Christmas season.

So what made you decide on your home resort?
When we purchased in early 2004, SSR was the only resort to have an extended contract (full 50 years available). Although we loved (and still love) BWV for its location, the 50-year contract and low dues were huge factors in our decision process.

We didn't book our first stay at SSR until the Treehouses opened in 2009. What a great gift they are!

We love four things about OKW...in order
  1. the size of the villas. Any tima we've stayed elsewhere, we've felt cramped.
  2. the laid-back ambiance of the resort.
  3. Parking our car at our door. We drive up to WDW, and prefer to drive to the parks, so that's a BIG benefit to us.
  4. the MUCH lower point structure for most accommodations. Combine that with the much larger villas and you're getting a lot more value.
And...it doesn't hurt that the dues are lower than most.

We bought BLT because we can walk to MK.

Same reason. We love the location of BLT and CR and that is where we stayed most of the time prior to owning DVC.

When BLT was built, it was an easy decision. We also like the Epcot area and if we were to own another resort, it would be either BWV or BCV.

BLT location, location, location! SSR for THV and location to DTD!

BCV - location to 2 parks, pool, and all the nearby restaurant options
AKV - unique experiencial theme, concierge
Aulani - weather year around

BWV - Location. Walk to 2 parks plus the Boardwalk
OKW - relaxing. "home like". tropical.
VB - Very Relaxing, beach, nature, nice part of the state.

Again OKW was the only one available when we bought in 93, but we love it for several reasons.
You can't beat their balconies and the resort layed back feeling you get when walking around the resort. A great place to relax and get away from it all.

We bought BLT for the location. Monorail resort, walking distance to MK plus you can go to MK bus stop and go to any resort for dinner. (our prefered time is Christmas for this resort)

We stay BWV during F&G festival due to location to Epcot even though we do not own there. Again it is about location.

You just need to find the resort you like the most and where you what to spend the most of your time and then enjoy.

We are in the process of purchasing SSR, just waiting to close. When weighing all the options, the combination of the length of contract, the Treehouses, MF fees, and the proximity to DTD tilted the scales in SSR's favor. We definitely enjoy the resort and are very happy to be owners there.

All of the above plus:
SSR was the only new DVC resort being sold when we bought
The quiet in the rooms (SSR has soundproofed rooms, ah bliss!)

VWL was our first choice. :thumbsup2 Love the lodge and the quietness of the Villas. Bay Lake and everything available around there makes it our favorite area. The pool is right at the Villas and the health club (and massages!) just down the elevators. We enjoy the walking paths to FW to visit the campgrounds and the boat ride to MK or to CR/FW. There are also dining options right there and additional eats just a boat ride away.

We bought 75 points at BWV and 85 points at WLV. Our reasoning was we could stay at BWV during F & W Festival, and WLV during Christmas time, every-other year. :goodvibes. Tho somehow, we've only managed F & W Fest. You know, priorities! LOL!

Well, I first bought 25 OKW resale to get in the system under the 160 minimum, then sold it after I got what I really wanted, which is VGC..Love the hotel and love the villas..best location of any DVC IMO :)

We bought at SSR because low dues and proximity to golf for DH. We liked the decor of the rooms and shortly after we purchased they announced the THV so that was a bonus. I also like having a spa onsite. All and all SSR just feels more relaxed to me.
We also like that it is not so close to the parks. That way if we ever want to do a non-park trip (not anytime soon) we won't be so tempted. Well, hopefully not ;)

We own at BLT and bought primarily because of the instant gratification, theme (modern), location to MK, great incentives (low cost per pt), and contract duration. It is not my favorite resort however. What I love about BLT is the modern vibe and walk to MK. We knew we were going to purchase DVC, but our purchase at BLT was an emotional one. I have no regrets, but BWV is, by far, our favorite resort. If we didn't plan on moving to central FL, we'd probably by a small BWV contract resale.

We love SSR. Very peaceful and calm. Further out then other resorts which some think is bad, but nice to be away. Also close to Downtown Disney :)
