What do you like about your home resort the most?

VWL.... first time my family walked into the Wilderness Lodge we were WOW'ED and we still are each and every time we walk in.

The theming is amazing - we knew we were "home". So much so that our every day home in Texas has been redecorated WL style. When we put in a pool it was all designed to look and feel and remind us of the lodge all the way down to the imported boulders to make sure we got the right colors.

We have stayed at quite a few other onsite resorts both DVC and non DVC but VWL will always be our home.

You know when you walk through a door way and immediately feel the tension leaving your body you have found a good place to be.

(prepare yourself for da cheese ;) )

I cry when I get there. I cry when I leave. There is NO PLACE like "home".

Awwwwww ... how wonderful. Sounds a lot like me and our weekend home in the local mountains. I absolutely feel the tension fade away about half-way there along the drive on windy backroads. And yes, I nearly cry every Sunday when we leave. Someday, I hope to spend a full week, or maybe more!, at home!

I had never heard of DVc back in 1998 when i first got a room at BWV. We originally had planned to stay at OKW but it was booked. I then tried BWV and was lucky to book a one bedroom unit which was all that they had available. We didn't arrive till late in the evening which as it turns out made the overall impression of the entrance extremely elegant. The whole family was blown away by the lobby . i have never felt this way about a vacation before but this place called to me like it was my home away from home. We ended up not getting the one bedroom as they were over sold but they booked us two studios instead overlooking the village green. Of course never having had a one bedoom i was bummed out but then they credited me two nights extra if i ever came again.

We loved everything about the BW but still had no thought about DVC as i thought that was just OKW and that seemed to me at the time to just be another condo timeshare..have since changed my mind about that too.

Got home and received DVC info in the mail and read up on it. I immediately got on the phone and bought 252 points and within a month i was back at the BWV as a member. I have since bought four more contracts here and never been happier. I like all the DVC units but I only feel that special warm feeling when i stay at the boardwalk. I am waiting to see if i also get the same vibe from the Grand floridian villas as i like the mono rail resort location too but not a fan of BLT as it is sterile to me. I won't buy direct from Disney again though as I'm wiser now

Home resorts are BWV and BCV. I love the location and only having to rely on buses for 2 parks. It's awesome to be within walking distance of EP and HS. I also love the theming of both resorts.

In the case of BWV, I like the availability of standard view rooms so I can make my points go a little farther.

Just returned from a few days at AKV. We had a savannah view studio. While we loved our stay there, I really missed the location of my home resorts.

we stayed at the BWVs before buying DVC, and like others were totally mesmerized....despite staying at almost every mod, deluze, and DVC resort, the BWVs is the one that i dream about almost every night.
i can say it is the array of entertainment (street performers, dining, tennis, community hall, minigolf nearby, etc), short strolls (not walks - we enjoy the strolls too much) to 2 parks, great pools (including access to my new love: the maxfield parrish BWI pool), the gorgeous lobby, fabulous CMs, yummy bakery, the nothing-like-it-in-the-world BW view (waking up to the BW awakening, spaceship earth in the background, seeing the eiffel tower framed by fireworks - all from your balcony :cloud9:), but it's something more.....
it's the feeling that starts as we see the BOARDWALK sgn, when i discretely place a kiss in my hand then onto the archway and whisper "we're home", each day and moment filled with options yet often just basking in the resorts' peacefulness, and the bittersweet leaving....when i place another kiss on the archway and whisper "we'll be back soon".
for us, all the other resorts feel like a place to stay while at WDW, but the BWVs feel like our destination, with WDW as a fun option.:)
(btw, we also own at SSR, which we like for its quiet resort atmosphere and great views, and BCV, which is nice, but too noisy without good views for our tastes - our plan is to sell those for more BWV points).

We toured all the WDW DVC resorts before we bought. My DH was so sure that he wanted BWV but when we toured SSR, it just "spoke" to us. We are a very active family, marathoners, walkers and bikers. My DH looked out over the middle lake and said, "I could get up early and walk and walk and walk" (which he does). We walked pass the rental bikes all lined up by size and he was sold. Never regretted our SSR points. Congress Park with a DTD view is our request.
We have stayed once at BWV, our DDs loved it, I was so-so and my DH doesn't want to stay there again, it's the hotel feel. My DH likes his SSR and doesn't want to stay anywhere else. Our DDs and I have also stayed at AKV and I wouldn't mind a stay there with our DGD.

We also own VGC points. Honestly, if they sold the 2 bedroom as a condo with a premium for the Paradise Pier view, we would have sold our home (30 min from DLR) and moved in!

I have 2 homes. SSR, our first and AKV.

SSR:. We bought sight unseen pre-sale because it is what they were selling at the time and have never regretted it. Here are the reasons we enjoy SSR.

Beautiful spacious grounds and a lovely color palette
Interior decor is elegant not cheesy
Proximity to DTD which offers tons of dining and transportation to other resorts
Several great pools
I love the boats to dtd
Easy access to villas with parking outside your building
THV's
Spahhh!
Would make a great destination for a no parks trip or adults trip
It is like a community
It is so relaxing after a commando day in the parks

AKV: We were in awe of Jambo house from the first time we stepped foot in it. I always said if DVC was added there we had to purchase there. Here is what we enjoy about AKV:

The Theme is amazing, unique and executed with details great and small
2 resorts with 2 different atmospheres
Quality materials used in the rooms
The most room categories from point saving values to concierge level rooms
When we are tight on points we can fit our family of 5 in a 1 br standard view
Wonderful restaurants
Bus transportation is consistently good
Lots of daily activities
Jambo's spectacular lobby and Kidani's intimate yet gorgeous lobby
The smell and sounds. I love the music and wish they sold the CD's
The Cast members are special

BCV proximity to Epcot. That's pretty much my only reason for choosing it. Don't really care about the pool although the pool is pretty awesome. I bought my first BCV contract before the place was even built, just based on how close it was to Epcot.

SSR I bought a few points at because I used to end every evening at DTD when PI was open. But I really don't do that anymore. So there's no real specific reason at this point why I own points there, or for me to stay there.

We became DVC members 12/08 at the AKV. I've stayed numerous times at Jambo including the Grand Villa with the pool table & we all LOVED it! It was HUGE! Best part it was all 1 level 5th floor

10/11 we all stayed at Kidani (first time) Grand Villa & I have to say it was nice but not as nice as the one at Jambo. It was 2 levels & no pool table; guys were a little bummed by that. Also I missed taking the elevator down to the lounge at Jambo for a drink. And, the lobby is unbelieveable at Jambo, was a little surprised when I walked into Kidani & how small it was.

Don't get me wrong, both are spectacular but I prefer Jambo over Kidani.

Got this tid-bit from the cast member while making ressies at AK. She said Michael Jackson always stayed at the AK Jambo Villa whenever he was in town. He enjoyed the animals & peaceful setting it offered. :thumbsup2

BLT

It was always a dream of mine as a kid to stay at the hotel that the monorail ran through. Ironically, our family could never affor to stay on property when I was a kid, and now I can stay there every year if I want. That to me is still sureal to me.

The views of both MK and Bay Lake are the most beautiful on property. For me, it was clearly an emotional choice..... its our family's happy place.

I love that it feels llike home...oh yeah and CL@ AKV is a no brainer, and if my daughter were to answer this question she would say the savannah and all of the animals

I too have always wanted to stay there, but after seeing the theming of the resort and hearing of the tales of wear & tear, I am not sure about it. Maybe a one night stay sometime.

I think the wear & tear issue is exaggerated! Has there been wear & tear? Sure! but, we've stayed at other DVC resorts (BCV and VBR) and neither of those were pristine either.

We bought BLT almost 2 years ago because despite being 31 my favourite park will always be the Magic Kingdom and being able to walk to and from the park is the best perk ever :)

Best memory so far is watching wishes from the balcony while streaming video back home for the parents (in the UK) to watch with us!

We own at SSR and we love it. My hubby and I go alone sometimes and we don't even go into a park. We get Congress Park and lounge by the pool and then go to DTD for dinner and they have entertainment sometimes. We take the boats over to Riverside or OKW, take a bus to the Poly or CR for meals. It's a wonderful relaxing trip. Then we have our trips like in April when the kids and grandkids are all coming with us and we'll run around the parks all day. The thing that sold my husband on Disney was Vero Beach as an option, he love that we can have a beach vacation. But everyone has different needs and that why the choices at Disney are great because there really is something for everyone.

...Also I missed taking the elevator down to the lounge at Jambo for a drink...

I've gone down to the bar at Sanaa inside Kidani and had a nice time. Granted it's not as big as Jambo but the atmosphere at the bar suited me just fine.

Not a criticism of your comment, I'm just saying that I enjoyed the bar at Sanaa as well.

:thumbsup2
