I consider myslef a WDW expert however I have NO clue about Universal. I am booking my first trip for next summer and I am considering using a TA since I am clueless. However the first time I booked WDW I used a TA and I didn't really get anything but my documents at the end. The next time I booked directly through WDW and I got all kinds of things in the mail about the parks etc. Does Universal send out informtation like this? I am just trying to figure out if it will be beneficial to use a TA or not. Thanks!!

I've never booked a package through UO vacations, just directly to the Lowes hotels and the only thing I've received from them are E-mails to confirm, then a email a few days before check-in. Usually a follow up email is sent, after your stay, to thank you for your business.

It used to be if you ordered your tickets, and had them shipped directly to you, they would send you a brochure.

I will never use a TA to book my Loews Orlando hotel.

It's very easy to do it yourself. The basic discounts are the Super Saver rate (an online rate that they release which is designed to save you more the longer you stay), AAA, APH (annual pass holder), and FLO (Florida resident).

I usually book AAA and then call and have it changed if the Super Saver rate comes out. I don't like going through a TA to do that; sometimes they'll "get to it when they get to it" and that doesn't sit well with me. We always get a nice e-mail to psyche us up for our upcoming visit and most of the time we get a post-stay survey.

Plus, if I change my mind about a request I've made or want to add a request, I can call them myself, again without waiting on a TA.

You can see what dates are available at all the hotels by going here:

I am planning our first UO trip and agree with previous posters...do it yourself. I got AAA rate at PBR on my own and ordered tickets online. I then called the toll free UO # (1-877-801-9720) and asked if they had maps or brochures. The next week I received beautiful maps to both parks and City Walk and a brochure about the spa at PBR..Very nice.

DH & I love WDW, but are so looking forward to UO.

Thanks for the info. How do you get the AAA rate or find out if on is available? I called Universal and they said it had to be booked with AAA. I am not a AAA member but if it saved me enough I would join. I am going June 27 - July 1st if that matters. Thanks!!

AAA rates do not have to be booked through AAA. I don't know what they were talking about. If the rate is out, the reservation person will give it to you if you ask.

Ok...I called again and this time I was told that the 2008 rates have not came out yet but looking on here it looks like several people have already booked them :confused3 I guess I will just go on and book at the rack rate.

i thought anyone could just go to aaa dot com & see the rates (under travel section); you just cannot book unless you're a member:confused3

are you calling loews directly or universal vacations phone #?

you could book @ rack just to have a room @ the inn; then switch it over if available. Make sure you sign up on Loews site for special percs based on return visits....i shall defer to an expert to explain.

we visit on the "pricey DVC weekends";) ; actually cheaper than it'd be based on going rate for points @ the villas.:thumbsup2

we booked RPR for less than $200 via AAA for end of June, departing July 1st this year.

that was my original plan...dvc, then universal friday and saturday, then dvc another week..but they stay for 4 play for free sounds appealing too..i went to the AAA website but it is giving me the rack rate..does that mean its not available

I just checked online. AAA rates are available for your dates, but looks like you can't book them online. Call (888) 273-1311 to book. Looks like RPR was going for $220.15. It happens sometimes with their website ... you can see what the rates start at for AAA, but you can't book online.

I don't see any benefit to using a TA (I can hear grimmaces from my cousin), as we used one on our honeymoon to WDW in 2005. They gave us all sorts of wrong information, didn't give us the things we asked for, etc. This last time in April, we did everything ourselves, and found it to be cheaper, because we shopped around for good deals, discounts, etc.

I'm sure that could be the case with UO. We never went to UO before this past April, but we just bought our tickets online and went for two days- taxi back and forth from our WDW resort was really the only cost- aside from food (which is expensive at all the theme parks) and any merchandise you want.
