I read that you cannot have individual campfires at your site so what do you do at night back at your campsite? :rolleyes1 How long does the Chip N Dale campfire last?

I think the campfire goes until the movie is over (11ish??).

We recently got one of these, specifically with the Fort in mind, that we are going to take on its maiden voyage in November ...... of course, it won't do marshmallows. Drats!

Why the heck not????? My DD used to like 'em so much that if I wouldn't build
a fire in the fireplace at home, she used to grab a kitchen fork and roast 'em over a candle:teeth:

By the time we get back to the camper, we're too pooped for pretty much anything else.

Get to bed early and get up early so you can be at the parks when they open.:thumbsup2

What do we do when we got back to the camper. We slept. After a long day in the park, we were always exhausted.

We have something like one of these that we roast marshmallows over! Ours is a Coleman. Of course, we have to bring in our own wood, since they don't sell it at the Fort.

well we have found we were too tired to build and then let a fire burn entirely out so we opted to go for a short trip to the campfire....Mostly we just come back and veg. for a bit then die for the night...walking so many miles each day is enough lol

Unfortunately, that fire pit will not be allowed.:sad1: It has to have mesh sides and a solid top which must be on while the fire is burning. I have attached an example of one that can be used at the Fort which is just like Rhonda's above.

Great info. Thanks!! :thumbsup2 I didn't realize the C&D campfire went so long!

Dh was looking to buy to one of the portable campfires just like ILoveDisney&Cruising posted, which was the motivation behind my post.

big kahuna1, thanks for the info on the requirements that were allowed.

I know the days we normally go into the parks we are pooped, but it was more of a question for the days we aren't walking ourselves into a disney coma.

Can hardly wait for Dec - our first Fort trip! :woohoo:

You know, when we went to the fort for our first visit, I was really bummed about not being able to have campfires. That is one of my favorite parts of camping !! I had no idea what we would do in the evenings without it. :confused3

But then we got there and in the evenings we were either in a park, the campfire/movie, or watching the fireworks and electric water pageant. There wasn't ONE night of our trip where we were sitting at the campsite wondering what to do !! :)

Yea, during the summer months normally campfires are outlawed because of the threat of fire, but during the winter months there "normally" is not any kind of issue with campfires.

All you have to do is check one of the local bulleting boards at the comfort stations, or ask when you check-in if campfires are allowed. If they are allowed, all you have to do is make sure it's covered on all sides with mesh or what have you (and the pictures above show some examples and work great!), and you're good to go.

Sometimes it pays to double check too, because once a cast member told us no fires were allowed, and then on our way to our campsite we must have seen at least 15 fires going....lol. Turns out they were allowed after all. So the first person you talk to isn't always correct ;)

We go to Fort Wilderness all the time and usually don't go to the parks when we're staying there. There's so much to do. We just go to the Meadow for the campfire and marshmallow roast there. I was born in 1972 and that's what I've been doing everytime :D. Too bad they don't have the Marshmallow Marsh anymore, that would have been perfect!

YAY!!! Someone else remembers Marshmallow Marsh!!! :thumbsup2

lol, et tu? I will be going to Fort Wilderness until the day I die. I only wish they had a cemetary there do I could stay forever when I die...that's MY idea of heaven!

to the OP, the Meadow campfire is great though, and there really isn't any need for a campfire at your site. You won't even miss it.

I have some wonderfull memories of Marshmallow Marsh, including boat "races" between the boat my family was in and the boat our cousins were in.

LOL! Disney coma! That describes it perfectly. :rotfl: Kind of like when a group of us were stuffed to the gills at Boma and coined it the Boma Coma....hehe.

When in December are you going? We'll be there 11/27-12/12. Hope to see you there!

CampingCat, any disney related "coma" is a good one :lmao:

We're actually going later in December. Will be there from the 22-30. I called yesterday for my dose of daily pestering Disney CRO for the additional 2 nights (22/23) that I needed to complete for my first Fort experience, and FINALLY after weeks of calling :cool1: I got all 8 nights!!! Now.... to just work on Dec 2008 :rolleyes1

I am jumping in on this post - we are going for 9 nights and was wondering if this fire pit will work?? Our kids go to bed really early and might not make the BIG campfire everynight.

Thanks

it will not let me post a picture!!!! It is a copper fire pit (circle) with a removable mesh top -
