What do you do when you need 1 point and DVC wont let you buy right now?

I was in the same situation as you. I just went over to the Rent board and found a DVC member with the same home resort as me who was looking to rent reservations (it wasn't hard to do) and she booked the last night that I needed and I paid her $12 per point. She book it 11 months out. It was no big deal.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. I am going to talk over with my hubby buying one night with the 25% DVC discount to try and "reserve" that night until we can try and book at the 7 month mark. If that doesn't work out we will just wait and hope to get the room booked in Jan. Hopefully we will get it, if not we will just miss one day at our favorite place!!!:thumbsup2

I think it is a good idea to do the cash ressie for the one night, then at 7 months try to book the last night on points. IF it is not available at 7 months, definitely put that last night on a waitlist, and there is a good chance it will come through since it's only 1 night! We put 5 nights in a Beach Club studio waitlist during October (F&W Festival), not expecting to get it, but lo and behold, it came through, all 5 nights! So I would think 1 night during August would not be too bad if you had to waitlist!

If its possible i have no problem giving you one if thats possible, just let me know how. Hope it helps/

You could find someone to rent a reservation from for that one additonal night and link it with the reservation you have already made.

And it sounds like DVC wouldn't place your borrowed points back after you learned you couldn't purchase the 1 point until 7 months? That I would have asked to speak to a supervisor about. But if they still won't do anything you can at least make certain that they use all of your borrowed points for your reservation and that the points left available are current points that you can bank into your next UY if that ends up having to happen.

You would have to transfer which means both you and the OP, have used your one transfer for your use year.

Also you would have to have the same home resort, or it would not benefit the OP.

If I couldn't borrow and was outside the 7 month window to buy that one point from Disney, I'd either:

1- Switch out the first night of the trip to a room that uses less points;
2- Shorten my trip by a day (hopefully add on at 7 months when I can buy that $15 point)
3- Rent a significant sum of bankable points (to bank all but 1!) from another owner at my home resort. They'll get used ;)

I like the third option the best :goodvibes

How do you "Bank" point that you have rented? :confused3

Transferred points retain their use year as well as home resort priorities. They're treated as though we own them once they're in our account. All banking rules apply.

I hold a disclaimer here that I have yet to try this - but unless I purchase an add-on, I'm planning on doing so in 2013.

You don't rent points. You "rent" a reservation or you transfer points. When you transfer points, they become yours, but keep their home resort and use year.

And per DVC, Members are prohibited from receiving compensation for transfers.

Have you considered a 25 point add on?

If I could not borrow, I would book 1 night short and hope. I wouldnt be opposed to Pop, or FQ or even a diff DVC if needed for the 1st night, providing I wasn't splitting already. .. Or even switch over to Universal and got to HP for the 1st night, using the hop the line feature staying one of there resorts, if it is not available.

Technically that's true but has never been enforced by DVC.

If I needed 1 point I would throw it out to the Rent/Trade board and see if someone has what you needed. I mean, it's only 1 point. Even if you had to pay for it the cost would only be $10-$12...

Get it from R/T board...

Problem is the one rented point can only be combined with other owned points if a transfer occurs. There are rules governing what/when/where/how points can be transferred. Most importantly, owners are limited to just one transfer per year, either in OR out.

I guess there's no reason not to try the R/T board but you're looking for someone who is willing to burn their one annual transfer--and devote some amount of time to the entire transaction--for the sum total of $12.

Oh, and OP also needs to find someone with her Home resort if she wishes to book at 11 months.

Count me out.

Not many people who actually rent would be willing to transfer 1 point and use their one per UY transfer option. Best bet would be to find someone who isn't interested in renting but is willing to help out if a transfer is the goal.

So I just booked our vacation for August and we are short 1 point. So I know a point can be bought for from DVC for $15, but what we were not told before starting the booking process and after borrowing points, that CANNOT, be put back is you can only buy points 7 months in advanced, even if it is for your own DVC home lodge. So now what to do what to do. If I wait until Jan, most likely the room will be booked for the one night we need...any one have any ideas!!!

I booked an August reservation for this year in June. I think that if you wait until the 7 month time frame and call right on the date you may be okay depending of course as others have said on what resort and room size you are looking for. If not you can waitlist for that one night and it will probably come through. I was waitlisted for 6 nights at BCV because my stepdaughter really wanted to stay there and it never came through but I really didn't think it would but when I have waitlisted for only one night we have been quite lucky. You could book at another resort for that one night at the 7 month date and WL for the one you are already reserved at and if it doesn't come through you are no worse off than if you stay at any other resort with regards to having to move. It would give you a chance to try out one of the other DVC resorts at the same time.
