For those that may not have the time to extend their vacation and arrive only the night before the cruise to the Port Canaveral - Orlando area, what do you do the night before? And for those that head back home on disembarkation day, what do you do that morning after disembarking?

Night before we stay at Radisson at the Port. We go to the beach and have a pretty good dinner there. Kids swim all day. Day off the ship we always go to SSR for the day and hang by the pool, although next year we are going to go to Typhoon lagoon and SSR.

We always arrive the day before the cruise. For a Disney cruise, we do a pre-stay at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. And on the day of the cruise we take Disney's transportation to the port.

On debarkation day, we just have breakfast on the ship, and then take Disney's transportation to the airport, and have lunch while waiting for our flight.

I've come in early the day before and we did Kennedy Space Center then stayed by the port. I've also come in during the day and have either driven to a hotel by the port or stayed at a Disney Resort for the night. If I stayed at the Disney resort we would take the bus over to Disney Springs and walk around to get in the "disney" mood. Once I came in later in the day and we actually stayed right there in the port hotel and took the DCL bus first thing the next morning.

After, depending on the time we have, we often drive to Disney Springs and hang out until it's closer to our airline departure time.

if we come in late, say after 6, we stay at the hyatt and go to the ship early the next day. if we come in earlier in the day, we'd be staying at a resort on property, using ME/DCL transfers and just go to DD or something.

exactly, later arrival stay at Hyatt in airport and walk down to the shuttle in the morning. If early, stay at a resort on property, visit the Animal Kingdom Lodge for supper and visit, hit downtown Disney and the Boardwalk later at night. Then take ME to ship the next morning. On return day, if flying out just head to airport since our flights are usually early afternoon.

The evening before you may want to do some strategic rearranging of items in your luggage so you have what you need in your carry-on. I frequently get too rushed in the morning and I sleep better if I have it all done in the evening. May or may not be exactly the way the OP intended the question.

Note: this is our SOP after arrival day before a cruise.

If we've arrived in the morning, find a Vietnamese restaurant for lunch. Otherwise, that's our dinner spot. Basically, it's our last chance for east/southeast Asian food before the cruise.

Hit a Wal Mart/Target/Dollar Store to grab any "essentials" we might have forgotten. This includes any water/wine/beer we're planning on bringing aboard.

Check in hotel, let the kids swim. If you're on a DCL cruise, this is important since swimming is impossible in the DCL pools.

As pp said, rearrange luggage so your carry on has what you need.

Last minute check to ensure you have cruise line app installed on phone/tablets.

We always get there the day before, have an early dinner at Ohana and maybe go to what is now Disney springs. We like to stay close to the port so we then drive to our hotel close to poser and relax. On disembarkation, we have gone to Kennedy Space Center before but we usually start the long drive home :(
