What do you consider a vacation? Hey I made my first poll woooo!

Is it simply time off work? Is it an expensive getaway of 5-7 days? A staycation? A couple of days at a hotel close to your area?

Only reason I'm asking is that I have heard several people recently say they haven't had a "vacation" in forever. They were meaning a long stay somewhere else of course not the mini things. Two of the women had just came back recently from a mini vacation at some beach somewhere. I guess I consider that a vacation.

I consider a vacation:
Going in an plane, car or train and going somewhere that's at least 50 miles from home for, at minmum, 4 days.

I would say that I am one of those people.

My DH has us go to Branson every year to have fun boating and jet skiing, however that is his choice. Boating and staying in a cabin is work to me.:rolleyes1

I would consider a vacation a destination that I want to go to. So, I have not been on a vacation in yrs. as far as I am concerned.;)

I voted for mini-trip as a vacation. I figure if you are in a hotel for 2 or more nights that counts as a real trip. A long weekend at the beach definately is a vacation in my book. But I don't think I've taken a trip that has been for more than 4 nights in about 5 years! I've been to Vegas twice, Gatlinburg, and North Carolina 3 or 4 times in the last 5 years, but all of those trips have been for 2 to 4 nights. I consider them all vacations because I was far from home and doing fun things. I was in DC for 2 weeks, but I had to go to work everyday so that definately wasn't a vacation. My husband and I have taken one night getaways frequently, but one night away isn't a vacation to me. I just like staying in hotels.

Well, since I am in desperate need of any time off work, I said that I consider any time away from work a vacation. But I usually say that a "real" vacation is a week away from home. A long weekend is a "mini vacation", and a few days off at home are just a few days off work. LOL I know, my reply made no sense...

For me a vacation covers all of your options, with the exception of the staycation and any time off from work. For me, if I take time off and just stay at home, it isn't really a vacation from the norm...it's just a break from work.

I voted any time off work. Such as this weekend, Monday is a holiday so we have 3 days off - don't really have anything planned other than cooking out at my dad's on Monday afternoon. Just hang out with DH & the kids. With one child still in elementary school I use several vacation days to go on field trips, etc. and to me that's a little mini vacation, don't have to work and get to do something fun with my kids. We also enjoy little mini vacations away (within 2-3 hours drive) over long weekends as well as the longer vacations.

A vacation to me is a week away from home at a fun destination of my choosing in a hotel where I don't have to do any cooking, cleaning, etc etc.

Going on a cruise is a vacation. Before we lived in Florida, going to WDW was a vacation.

Going to visit my parents in Chicago or my inlaws in Oregon is NOT a vacation. Going 3 nights to my cousin's wedding isn't a vacation. Even now, spending the weekend at WDW isn't a vacation. That is just 'going to disney' for a couple of nights.

A staycation with activities counts as long as I don't have to cook.

Anytime above one night spent away from home with the purpose of NOT working or doing something "responsible".

Hello :flower3:

Anything at all is a vacation for me. Mini-maxi, anything where I am away from home.:thumbsup2

To me...A vacation would have to include:

Minimum of 3 days
Must take at least 1 vacation day from work (holidays don't count)
Going to a destination outside of my home state
Purpose of trip is NOT SOLELY for the purpose of a family event (ie wedding, funeral, etc)

Going to the cabin at the lake this Labor Day weekend is not a vacation. It's a fun weekend.

Now, if I were to take Friday and Tuesday off, drive to Destin and hang out on the beach...that would be a vacation.

For me, a vacation is time off work. Right now, I'd love to just hang out around the house for a week and relax. We did a lot of travelling this spring and early summer and I've totally lost my taste for actually going to a destination for awhile.

Any time off of work is a vacation to me!

But, staycations are NOT a vacation to me. I'd rather shave my head.

Go figure.

I picked somewhere away for 5-7 days but for me, it's actually got to be longer than that. I prefer a 7-10 day vacations; over 14 days and I start getting anxious about my dogs. :lmao:

It takes me a good 3-4 days to stop with the work mentality and if I don't get far-far away from home, my mind stays at the office.

I chose the 5-7 days as "vacation", but I call the 2-4 days close by a "mini-vacation."

Maybe it's the teacher in me, but I view school vacations as a vacation; however, they are not the same as "going on vacation".

Being both a SAHM and working from home, unless I physically get away from the house, it's never a vacation.

But the main thing is having a change in scenery and a change in the daily pattern of things.
