We always called it a nook (rhymes with "book") because it was a Nuk brand pacifier. DD Sarah could do tricks with her nook. We would purposely put it in her mouth upside down and watch her spin it back the right way. You get your amusement where you can, I suppose.

My BFF's toddler named it "baby" he walks around the house.....baby, baby, baby...........when he gets mad, he chucks it and then screams BABY because he can't find it.
pacifier - when DS was a baby (22 years ago...) he hated it - instead, he'd keep a small blue terry cloth "duck" in his mouth (tail end!) and this "duck" was called "Beaky" - (oh - and DS called it a "chicken")
whenever my sister wanted to have a picture taken of DS, she'd say "get that chicken's a** out of his mouth!"
I grew up calling it chucho (the Italian word for it my parents used).
For my own kids that never stuck. We started calling it a pacifier but that was too long. MIL called it a binky so we started to use that. Then once the kids started to talk it morphed into something like "binkla". So that is what we called it for a while too.
