What do you all eat in between Christmas and New Year?

This year we are spending our Christmas at My Mum's and therefore I do not have to cook for me and mine from 24-27 December.

What meals do you eat in between Christmas and New Year?
I won't have a Turkey so no leftovers, I may roast a ham.
My problem is we are all home until January 4th, no "tooing and froing" to school so in theory I will have more time to try new recipes but in reality I know we will end up going here there and everywhere and when we return home I will be relied on to get a dinner on the table pronto!

We are usually fed up with roast dinners by then and I don't want to slip into my normal family food rut that I sometimes get in, ie Mince based dishes, Fish pie, pasta, steak, chicken this and that:rolleyes:

So what do you cook at times like this?

Joanne, I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help as one of the reasons I love Christmas so much is because I rarely have to cook over the Christmas period. We eat out far more than usual and, when we do eat at home, we have lots of 'snack' meals like cheese and crackers or cold meat and salad.

We always have a chinese takeaway on Christmas Eve since I spend most of Christmas Day morning in the kitchen so I have the day off before.

Christmas Day I will cook but I would be surprised if I have to cook anything else again before the Tuesday or Wednesday after Christmas. We will have a combination of meals out, cold meat and accompaniments and just general 'eating whatever is laying around' :rotfl2:

If I'm home, I always do a Nigella's recipe baked ham, make lots of my potato salad which keeps in the fridge and make sure the freezer's stocked with party/snack type items so those who are around can dip in and out as they please. I try and cook as little as possible TBH... ;)

I try and cook as little as possible too. Christmas Eve is always a takeaway. Boxing Day is left over turkey then up to New Year its meals out, party food and anything thats easy heated up without too much preparation.:)

No cooking from me either. Hopefully it will be lots of Cosmic Ray's, chicken strips, Pop food court and Tutto Italia ~ sorry, I couldn't resist :rotfl2::rotfl2:

That sounds like my usual, I thought last night that I might also try and do a few soups that freeze well as they de-frost really quickly and the girls are really into my soups at the mo.

I know it's a time when we couldn't care less about what we eat but for reasons I don't want to go into I have to watch youngest DD's diet a bit or the consequences aren't very pleasant if she doesn't have her five-a-day;)

Don't you just hate people like that, can't stop themselves, can they:sad2:

I've decided on a couple of recipes including Scallops (with black pudding for me, without for DH and the girls) and Venison - I really want to do something different - the girls love scallops not sure about the venison though.....as I'm not cooking at Christmas I've decided to expreriment a bit in between:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
