I am getting my Disney rewards card when we get there, which should cover meals so what else will we need cash for?

I found that it was good to have a little cash in case the snack stand you wanted to get something from was having problems with its computer. And you'll need cash for tips.

I think Its good to have both, I am going to use the Disney pre-pay card to put down on our resort card to use In side WDW, I do not like the thiught of bringing that amount of cash with me on the plane. I know the resorts will take Disney cards:)

These are the things we used cash for on our last trip:

Tip Airport Porter (if you use one)...we tipped $20 cause we had 4 heavy bags and he got us to the front of the security line that was over an hour wait (our plane was leaving in 45 minutes )
Buy Snacks or coffee at the airport
Tip Magical Express Driver (if you feel service was good - we always tip $5- they do take your bags +/or stroller on & off the bus and I know they have a sign that says something about tips for exceptional service)
Tip Mousekeeping ($5 per day is avg. from what I've read here)

I don't know, we always underestimate the amt. of cash we will spend and wind up going to the ATM. It always happens, and we charge almost everything to the room too!
Boy that's a scary bill at checkout :scared1:

good luck planning, & have fun on your trip!

Thanks. I don't want to take too much but hate the thought of paying fees for an atm.

My SIL mentioned this last year, and my response was something along these lines:
"You're spending several thousand dollars for this WDW vacation, and you're going to fret about a 2 or 3 dollar ATM fee?"

If I take enough cash, then I won't need to pay the fee & my thought is, 2 or 3 dollars can go toward paying for the trip. It's not much, but for some of us, every dollar counts.:thumbsup2

:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: But I have been there, did that!

Food not covered under your plan, momentos, tips, snacks and drinks, possible rentals. You always need cash at Disney. It's IMO the most fun vacation you can take :woohoo: but IT AINT CHEAP!! pirate:

I make my tip envelopes up ahead for my meals (I have ressies for at least 1 meal a day) and I also do mousekeeping envelopes ahead of time.. I only actually needed cash for just a very few souveniers and my coffee that I needed..other than that..I really didn't need much cash... I used my Disney rewards for all other gifts:)

Guessing... how much cash would a family of 4 need for 4 nights?
I know this is a broad question. We already have the dining plan and 100 Disney Dollars.

If you set up charging priviliages on your room key, you won't need cash. Even if the computers go down they will still take your room key. This happened in EPCOT to us in Aug. we had cash but the guy just wrote down our room key number and what we bought. though, funny thing is we never got charged for the food we purchased.

Oh except to tip mousekeeping.

DH & I will be at WDW in Dec. We plan to charge everything to our KTTW card. I usually stop periodically as we pass by the front desk and pay off what we have charged so far. We will probably take $20 or so in cash with us each day just in case.

I had used my debit MasterCard at a few of the Food and Wine stands, as well as at a couple stores outside of DW. A few weeks later, I noticed that someone had wracked up about 400 dollars in charges using my card at places like Ross, WalMart in Florida.

I'd hate to think that someone stole my credentials inside DW, but I'm not taking a chance this time.

I actually went on line and ordered Disney Gift Cards for my two teenagers for $100 each for our 6 day stay last summer. They had these to use for purchases for themselves or if they wanted to buy anything for someone at home. That kept us from having an even larger bill at check out from charging things to the room. We had the Dining Plan, and at that time it included the tip so we didn't need cash for that either. I had my Mousekeeping envelopes made in advance, with a $5 bill in each of them, tucked into my passporter for each day. We used very little cash the whole week we were there, other than tips for baggage handling.
