I am booked in Category 8 for rooms 5502, 5504 and 5506 in June. I don't understand the differnce between these categories (they don't match the deck / room numbers), so what do they mean?

I'm a first timer so please bear with me...Thanks!

Categories on DCL range from 12 to 1 with 12 being the lowest(?!) and 1 being the highest.
The differences may be in size or in location & if the room has a verandah, a windoe, or is interior and how many it can sleep.
The DCL web site has a pop-up tour and Barb's site has some great pictures of the different categories.

Hi GenieDana and welcome to the Cruise Board! :)

The cabin categories relate to the size of the cabin and the amenities included. They range from the Category 1-3 suites (all on Deck 8) to the Category 12 cabins (on Deck 2).

A Cat. 8 is a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with a LARGE porthole window. They are located on decks 5, 6 and 7. A cabin category number has no correlation to the deck number.

I hope that helps a little! :)

The great thing is that no matter what category you are in, you will still get the same great service. Cats. 1, 2, and 3 have concierge service, but with 4 through 12 the difference is in your stateroom size and whether it's inside or outside. It's nothing like the different classes of the Titanic days.
