What do teens do at Vero?

....especially in the evening. Are there activities for their age? My girls are used to the cruise, and they keep the teens very busy, but I don't think they a lot of activities (but I don't know).

Anyone go to VB with teens? Did they like it?

well, we recently returned from a vero trip and our DS16 spent most of the trip hanging out with other teenagers. We really didn't see much of him, and we were there for five nights!
He made friends at the hot tub, a big group of teens who were there in a beach cottage. He said they played card games, watched movies together and just hung out at the pool and beach.
When they left, he made friends with a couple of girls and spent time hanging with them, playing games in the lobby and talking, hanging out at the beach and pool.
He didn't do any of the organized activities.

My dd and I did see a couple of teens at bingo. And a number of them participated in the slide races while we were there.

Thanks! It sounds like they can keep themselves busy. I think it may be a nice break from going to WDW but was worried they wouldn't find anything to do.

Things that I saw teens do at Vero Beach included: hopping over the staircase railing in the Inn instead of using the stairs to get up to the 2nd floor (I thought for sure the railing would give way).

Teens also seemed to enjoy giving the lifeguards a hard time when going down the slide. The teens that I saw could never seem to grasp "the feet first only" and the "wait until the first person has entered the water before heading down the slide" concept regardless of how many times they were "warned". ;)

I am so sorry the teens were causing problems when you were there. Not all teens are like that, but those are the ones that give the whole generation a bad name.

I remember when I was a teen, my friends and I just like to sit around and talk and we didn't do stuff like that but many of our classmates did cause a lot of problems.

This is a tough age for everyone. I guess at least at WDW they are busy and standing in lines for rides so that might be a better option. Honestly, as a parent, I am not going to miss these years when they are over. I do miss the grade school years though.

We were just there. Got back late Sunday night. Our ds is 16 and dd 19. My son went to the gym at night and we all went to hear Bernie sing. :rotfl2: There were loads of teens...more like middle school to early high school. The girls..got dressed up and walked around and around the floors in the main bldg. Our dd19 thought this was soooooooooooo weird. We would hear them just walking by on our floor for a couple of hours every night. They were trolling basically. LOL There were groups that hung out in the lobby. Not sure about the pool area because we didn't stay at the pool past dark. The campfire was cancelled one night and they did something on the big porch instead, but that seem to be mainly LITTLE KIDS.

Our ds 16... just enjoyed the beach/pool during the day. He could care less about CRUISING the resort at night. :rotfl: My dd was BORED after day 2. She claims she will never go again. Her exact words were "I will take the magical express from Disney and fly home". We did a split... 9 at Disney 5 at Vero.

Our 11 year old enjoyed the resort, but we pretty much just hung out together at night. We went out to find a place for dinner a couple of nights then would come back and hang in the Green Cabin Room listening to Bernie sing. They didn't wander off. Maybe if they had brought friends with them....it might have been different.

I have never been on a cruise, but I can say that there is NOT a whole lot for teens at this resort.

We didn't seen any hopping of rails, but we did see lot of of girls walking around and around the floors in the Inn. We saw a big group of boys and girls in the lobby our last night. We also saw a few get in trouble at the pool..but not all the time. One day a few teens got a bunch of those pool balls and throw about 30 in the hot tub from the pool. :confused3

My son is a big time soccer player and with varsity tryouts looming...he worked out and ran every night in the gym. I will ask him if he saw teens hanging at the pool.

Thanks everyone, we are debating between Vero and the Disney Cruise for next year. I am just not sure there will be enough to do at Vero for my teens and I don't think I want them going back to other people's rooms. On the cruise they have a place for teens to hang out, so that may be a better option.

If it were for 2 or 3 nights..they would probably be fine hanging out with you. If it were longer...you might have boredom.

Why not just stay at WDW before the cruise??? :goodvibes

Oh if we cruise, we will go to WDW also. It is just for 10 years now, we have been going on the Disney Cruise and then to WDW. Don't get me wrong, we LOVE it. I was just wondering if there may be something different we could try.

But going on the cruise and then to Disney World seems to be a hit and so far no one is bored with it. Just wondering about other options though.

Thanks everyone!

We just got back too and I would say the teens just walked around and made friends.

There were also a few girls that were sitting in the elevator talking just riding it (kinda wierd but whatever).

:lmao: There was not enough activity for US adults at VB last year & we were only there for 3 nights!! :rotfl2: It is a beautiful resort & it IS a nice change of pace after a week at the World to just slow down & veg for a couple of days before going home...but a whole week?! Uhhh. Not for us. If given a choice between a DCL and VB then I'd hands down cruise!! Now possibly you could do a split between (3 n VB and 4 n cruise?!):confused3 If you are going in the summer there are no 7 night cruises out of FL next summer...the Magic is in the Med, the Wonder is moving to the West coast & the Dream is doing 4/5 nighters.

I just read an article about kayaksetc (.com) in Vero. It looks like lots of fun and is not too expensive! The only question is whether teens could go without their parents. But it would be a fun family activity too.

I'm 23 years old and find myself sort of bored at VB. If I were in your shoes, I'd stick to the cruises and WDW trip. JMO!

So for all of you who think VB is boring or there isn't enough for teens to do, what is your solution or suggestion? What is it that they should have at VB that would make it better for teens or adults?

The problem with Vero is that the entire town shuts down & closes up shop at 9:00. You will be hard pressed to find ANYTHING open past 9:00. Since there's nothing to do off-site it leaves a burden on the resort itself to provide "stuff" to do and it just seems to also go with the flow of the town. I guess everybody just watches TV or goes to bed. :confused3 WE didn't know what to do that's for sure. There are no boardwalks or amusement centers or anything around like a typical beach town. It is NOT like Myrtle or Ocean City where there's stuff to walk to & do. I've never been to the NC beaches but I hear they're also pretty quiet & lack a nightlife & boardwalk too. :confused3

I don't know. The resort itself seems to have as much to do in the evening as most of the other DVC resorts. There is a pool, restaurant, bar just like OKW, SSR, AKV, BLT. Granted that the BWV has the boardwalk to stroll around but I'm really not sure what else they should be doing at the VB resort for evening activites. They just don't have DTD or theme parks next door.

So if there is a "burden" on the resort to provide stuff for guests to do, what did you have in mind? We went to the Green Cabin Room for drinks twice and had a good time in there. The camp fire didn't really appeal to us. We left after 10 minutes.

Our problem was with the whole town of Vero shut down at 9:00. It is not a typical beach town like what we have up in the Mid-Atlantic. I mean even Rehobeth Beach & Bethany Beach in Delaware have boardwalks. We eat late (8-8:30) and were just about ALWAYS the last ones in whatever restaurants we went to. We felt like they were sweeping around us everywhere. As I mentioned earlier, there is no boardwalk, pier or amusement center. So unless you want to watch TV or go to bed at 10:00 (we don't USUALLY take DS to a bar) then there's not a lot of options. What WE were looking for was more to do in the area. Go Karts, games, boardwalk, I don't know...SOMETHING.:confused3

Maybe they could have a movie room with a big screen and show movies every night with popcorn. Just something to do other than be in your room.

And for teens, maybe a lounge like they have on the cruise so they have a place to hang out without going to each others room (which I am not comfortable with that).
