We are arriving in San Diego mid afternoon on a Friday. We are leaving on Sunday night to drive to Anaheim. We are planning to go to the zoo on Saturday. Someone mentioned to my DH about Coronado. My brother was also stationed on the USS Midway so we would like to see that. Are these both worth it? What else should we do in San Diego?

The Midway self guided audio tour is great!

There are different length harbor cruises which are good.

Cabrillo National Park/Point Loma

LaJolla Cove...Spending a couple of hours walking along the ocean in La Jolla is great especially in the late afternoon/sunset.

IMO...The Coronado Hotel is okay if you want to take a quick look around at a hotel with a lot of history, but I wouldn't choose it over anything listed above.

You could certainly drive over to Coronado on Friday afternoon if you just want to see it. But as labattblue mentioned, Cabrillo National Monument would also be a nice place to go for a couple of hours if the weather is clear. Or La Jolla Cove.

There's lots of museums and places to wander around in Balboa Park (where the Zoo is), though after a day at the Zoo that might not be very appealing!

The best way to see the highlights of San Diego is to take the Trolley Tour. It is a hop on and hop off bus. It takes 2 hours if you dont get off but we always do. I think you can buy tickets online. I have been on it twice and I am local. Its just easier and it gives you a nice tour of the city.
Go to trolleytours.com to see the route.

My brother was also stationed on the USS Midway so we would like to see that.

We did the Midway on our last visit. We arrived shortly after they opened. We stayed 3 hours and it wasn't enough time to see everything...

Does anyone have a suggestion for what beach to go to in San Diego. We are arriving very late on 8/24 and left the 25th opened to adjust to the time difference. I would like to go to a beach that afternoon but do not know which one to visit. Thanks in advance.
