We have one big building with an office and a warehouse. Our dress code is relaxed, to say the least.

I can't believe what some people wear to work!

In the office I've seen VERY short skirts, a little belly exposed, a tank top and jeans (jeans are allowed), and short shorts. Actually this is all worn by our receptionist.

I realize the warehouse is a much more relaxed atmosphere but I wouldn't dream of wearing half of that stuff out of the house, let alone to work. Today someone is wearing a hooters t-shirt (that's what inspired this thread). I've seen flannel pajama bottoms, shirts with paint all over them ("oh, it's my painting shirt"), torn up flannel shirts, etc.

So, what's allowed in your office and what crosses the line? Does anything happen if someone crosses the line?

I think we're very casual, but nothing you mentioned would fly. No jeans, no t-shirts with words on them, no shorts...basically office casual I guess you'd say.

I have had some people push the envelope a bit (exposed thongs, belly shirts), they are dealt with swiftly and severely!:p (not really...they just get told not to do it again).

I work for a bank. Here the rules are:

front line office (branch personnel, commercial bankers, business bankers, trust officers, etc): Business formal, except Fridays - business casual

back office (marketing, credit operations, HR, etc): business casual everyday

operations center (proof, network services, programmers): casual everyday - jeans, shorts, t-shirts are allowed

In all areas, no leggings, no stirrup pants, no belly showing, no rips, no fishnet stockings, no flip flops.

I work at a college and some of the things the student employees wear are...umm...interesting. We do have a fairly relaxed dress code (today, I'm in jeans but normally I wear dresses or dress pants if it's cold) but your clothing does need to cover your body and be free of holes. And, yes, I've told some of the girls that they shouldn't wear a certain outfit again due to short skirts or shirts.

jeans & t'shirts here, we're a construction company. Only 3 women and somedays we do get a bit dressed.

When I worked it was suits. And I wore short dresses with a jacket over top. Sometimes no jacket. I always looked fine, but one time my boss told me that my dress was too short. But being 5'10...everything is short on me. So, I won the argument;)

I work in a school and we do have a dress code. We are not allowed to wear jeans or tops that show our midrift. On days that we teach sport we wear track suit bottoms and a top (our school has a school uniform so staff usually wear a top like the kids wear with our school logo on.) On days we do not teach PE we wear skirts or trousers with fitted tops or blouses. The teachers who work with the younger children wear trousers more. In summer we wear summer skirts (knee length) and short sleaved tops. We are also not allowed to wear shorts.

our office is 'business casual'...if we see a guy in a tie they get the "interview or funeral?" question.

today, being friday, is a bit more relaxed and the one day a week we can wear jeans. Personally I'm wearing dark jeans, strappy sandles w/ a heel (pretty much hidden by by jeans) and a sleeveless sweater. (I keep a cardigan at my desk for when I leave my desk...we're not really supposed to wear sleeveless shirts...but I pretty much stick to my cube so it's not a big deal.) During the week I'll wear skirts (to the knee at least), capris or full pants, strappy sandles/wedges (no "beach" shoes), and a sleeveless top with a cardigan. (basically the same 'look'...but always different)

It REALLY runs the gamut around here though
saw one woman wearing tevas with khakis
one woman wore the same pair of pants 4 times in one week (don't ask) and the same dress 2 days in a row. ???
the woman who lost alot of weight, then put some back on, but hasn't bought the next bigger size in pants or shirts - really don't need to see that belly

I've never had anything said about my atire, or heard about others...but there are always a few in each group that 'push the limit'.

Sometimes I really want to ask someone - did you happen to at least GLANCE in the mirror before you left the house this morning?

  Same here. That happened a lot last year during cutbacks.

our office is business casual as well. though, if we are dealing with clients, we are supposed to dress to their dress codes. usually that means a suit.

normally i wear dress plants or a skirt and a nice top. on friday's i frequently wear jeans.

*rae* Uhh, we deal with the public.

Most of us wear a black blazer.

At my desk we all wear white shirts, black pants, black shoes along with the blazer.

Managers get a bit more colorful clothing and aren't required to wear that sort of uniform.

Though I wouldn;t exactly call what I wear a uniform either.

I'd never wear what you just described, not even in the privacy of my own home.

yep - us to.
one guy went into the mens room and came out in a full suit...we all read him the riot act, he had to yell "it's my 30th anniversary, can't a guy take his wife out to dinner in style?" heheh

forgot to add - on the off chance i have to come in on the weekend...in the winter it's sweatpants/sweat shirt and in the summer tank top and shorts...due to teh lack of heat/ac on the weekends!

One morning we had someone go to the bathroom & on the way back she decides to announce to the entire floor that she forgot to put on underware today. TMI (Too Much Information)!!!

What would you consider a dressy plant as oppose to a casual plant:p

We're casual and people wear jeans or khakis. Shorts and sandals aren't allowed. We had one young woman wear a belly shirt once and she was told not to wear it again. I've never seen anyone wear anything really outrageous though.

I'm a full time education student. In college anything goes ... I usually wear jeans with a blouse, knit shirt or sweater. Some of the girls do the thong showing, belly showing thing. Some of the guys wear what they just picked up off the dorm room floor that morning after it was there for two or three days!

To study in the elementary schools ... causual but conservative dresses, skirts, sweaters, blouses, slacks. The only time we can wear jeans and a t-shirt or "dress down" is if the individual elementary school has a "dress down day" on the day we are studying/teaching in the school. But no belly showing, thong showing, stinky, wrinkled on-the-floor-of-the-dorm wear allowed! :p

Usually shorts and a tshirt or sweats. Sometimes pajamas at first if I'm running late. I work full time from home. :) Before I started telecommuting I had to wear Professional attire and we could wear business casual on Fridays. I've saved a small fortune not having to pay for pantyhose, makeup and dry cleaning the last few years!

The company that I work for explains to the employees on the first day , in the orientation session, that the dress code is simple.. if you did not get arrested on the way in, then you are ok.. This is told to us by the CFO.. :teeth: So we wear jeans, shorts etc..

My office is business casual Monday-Thursday and casual on Friday. I usually wear things like black or tan pants (not khakis, but only because I'm not really a fan of chinos), sandals/boots (depending on the season) and my shirt can vary from a button-down to a sleeveless top. I have to admit, I'm a little on the trendy side, but wouldn't expose my midriff, underwear, or wear a tank top.

Fridays for me are usually jeans. A few people dress like they just rolled out of bed, but I tend to be a little dressier, even in jeans.
