So what do I need to buy? All I can think is one of those plug sockets, but what else will we need or what else would come in handy? 1 adult and 1 child.

Also what kind of clothes will we need for middle of october?

Rain ponchos!
Hopefully you want need them (although we use them for Splash Mountain, Jurassic River Adventure etc) but if you need to buy one in the parks they are waaayy too expensive for a piece of plastic!

Do you drink tea? If yes, a travel kettle.

You might not need to buy it. But you probably need a bag big enough to take your clothes to and from the laundry facility.

Sun cream

Blister plasters.

Camera memory cards and battery.

October is mainly hot still but you can get a cool morning or evening so you may want a light hoodie/top to cover your arms. Otherwise it's summer clothes all the time.

I'm not planning on using the laundry, I'm just gonna take the right amount of clothes with us, also i will probably buy some while I'm there too.
Never thought about plasters, thanks :)

Something long sleeved or a jacket for evenings. We always go in October and have had from 20 plus in the evening down to around 12 degrees! Dont take too much with you if you are planning to visit the malls, you WILL run out of bag space and weight allowance.:sad1:

A bum bag is always useful to contain all your gubbins, money spent on a more comfy larger one is seldom wasted, we usualy pack lightweight rain jackets in them, saves all the poncho problems and keeps you dry on the wet rides. Hats, if you are fair skinned, wear a hat, even in October that sun is fierce for those of us of Celtic extraction! Make sure to take it off on the rides or you will lose it!

Ohhh thanks, I'm sure I seen a 2 pack in pound shop

We went at the end of October and we were glad we took lightweight fleeces - some chilly mornings and evenings.

Basic first aid kit, including scissors and headache tablets.
P20 suncream - only need one application per day, unless swimming.
Armbands if child is a non-swimmer
Crocs - great on a water-ride if you get soaked!
Ponchos - available from Asda for around £1
Fancy dress if your child is likely to want to dress up.

Couple of things that people can find good to have... they are available to purchase in the US if you're driving but if you're on site and no car, best to take them with you!

Zip lock bags. Especially good if you're on the Dining Plan because often you can't finish your dessert and popping it in a bag you can save it for later. Also good for wet clothing.

Wet wipes. I've been glad I had these in my back pack many times with my kids!

As others have said ponchos are HUGELY expensive in the parks so getting them here on the cheap is smart. Also sun cream. There was a time when it was cheaper in the US, but now, not so much, especially at the stores on-site!

Something I find useful too is a gym bag. You the ones that kids use for P.E. kits or swimming kits? Firstly, they are good in the parks because they are waterproof for the rides where you will get wet. Secondly, when empty, you can just screw them into a ball and put them in your pocket, then just pull them out to put wet clothing in.

Blister plasters are vital. I know that you are used to DLP but you'll do a LOT more walking at WDW because the parks are much bigger.

I agree with the above but we took the smll water bottles off the plane so we could buy big bottles of water and refill them to take round the parks with us :)

We take an extension lead with 4 plug sockets (actually we take 2 now with all the gadgets we have) and use an adaptor to plug it in. We can charge all our stuff up without having to have loads of adapters.

I second the ziplock bags, we use them for all sorts of things and they are really useful for putting anything like sun cream, toiletries etc in the suitcase incase they leak.

We also use them for chargers and label them so we don't forget any or leave them at the villa. They are really handy to put a damp poncho in.
