Centipedes are downright gruesome. Even spiders (which are equally horrible) supposedly eat mosquitoes and other pests (not that it makes me like them anyway).

Does a centipede have a purpose? Or is it truly on the bottom rung of the ladder of life? :earseek:

Catepillars turn into butterflies.

I have no idea what a centipede eats.

Sorry. That's caterpillers. Which are almost cute sometimes.;)

My friend's dog stepped on a catepiller last weekend. It let out a bunch of green goo (blood?).

No clue what centipedes eat or what their purpose is. I do know that they skeeve me (or is that millipedes? the hundred thousand legger bugs that crawl up out of the sink??)

They eat insects such as mosquitoes or cockroaches, and they also eat spiders or other centipedes.

Dan, I now know more than I ever dreamed I could about centipedes. I wasn't surprised to learn that they're anti-social - they're too ugly.:earseek:

And they can even eat a LIZARD!:earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

Something that ugly can eat anything it wants, as long as it does it FAR away from me.

::yes:: Me too. I found one in my laundry hamper today - I nearly passed out.:faint:

We have been getting HUGE ones in work. At least 6 inches long! They freak me out. The exterminator has been in but because of the nature of my work we can't use chemical control, so all he did was put down sticky traps. I swear these centipedes just walk right over the darn things.

Thanks a lot, Dan. ;) Being curious like I am and always amazed by your ability to find anything and everything someone asks about, I just HAD to go look! YUCK!!! I think I'll being seeing those ugly things in my sleep tonight!! :crazy2:

Sorry, but I just had to "top" this one!

Last week I went to grab a paper towel off the roll that's attached to the wall (not a 'stand-up' rod), and as I yanked the first towel it pulled the second one along and there was a HUGE thousand-legger (that's what we call them here) on that second towel and it JUMPED OUT AT MY FACE!!!!!!!!! :duck: :faint:

I think I lost 5 years off my lifespan...

I HATE THOSE THINGS!!

Although, spiders are worse (you don't want to
know where/when a spider bit my eye)...
We live near RR x's and all of our houses have
a major spider infestation.
So, that's why we've got those horrible
centipedes I guess?

Personally, I think hornets & wasps are WAY worse!

OMG!!! I can't believe...a "centipede" post!!! My city, when you call any exterminator around is considered "centipede city".....it is awful!!! I am sitting :"indian style" in my chair right now as I do every night....they are TERRIBLE!!!!!!!

I think I lost 5 years off my lifespan just reading this!

A friend of mine once woke up to find one crawling across her chest!:earseek:

Oh yuck.. I can stand almost any bug, insect, arachnid...but centipedes give me the heeby jeebies...And last night when I was taking the dogs out to let them go potty for the last time that night, I left the front door open just a crack...When I came back to the front door, there was a "worm looking" thing lying right on the threshold, about to enter the house. It was big, (about 4 inches long) and fat (bigger around than a pencil) and upon further investigation..it was a big, fat centipede....I had sandals on, so I was afraid I might touch it with my toe if I kicked it...So I took off my shoe and booted it out the door with my shoe....Ewww.....

Why do they exist?????

I can't imagine one catching a mosquito or cockroach, unless it was already dead?????

Luvthatduke, I'm sorry, but your post made me crack up.....:hyper:

Last year we had a condo for a week in Duck, NC right on the sound. Our bedroom was infested with millipedes (the worm looking ones with all the legs), GROSS! I woke up one night to have one crawling on my back! I hopped out of that bed so fast and never really had a good night sleep the whole week. (We also had a mouse the first 2 days- this was a very stressful vacation). The rental office did bring us bug spray, but it didn't seem to work very well on them. Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.

So they are carnivores as opposed to herbivores, very interesting. I had something, creepy crawly, and fuzzy on one of my potted plants. it was just plain....eeeewwww!!!!:earseek:
