I was just looking at DVCMikes trip report and I noticed the Alice in wonderland ride (not sure what it's official name is) and that got me to thinking that we should watch some of the movies to refresh our minds of what the rides are based on.

What movies would you recommend?

For example, I have no idea where the ride inspiration came from for Mr. Toad's wild ride?:confused3

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is based on the movie "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad". The character Toad is from the original story The Wind in the Willows.

Other movies to watch would be Snow White, Pinocchio, Dumbo (for Casey Jr. and Dumbo's Flight), Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Third Man on the Mountain (Matterhorn), Song of the South (good luck finding that one), Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Finding Nemo, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

That got moved to community board. That has a ton of suggestions.
In general you may want to watch movies to get an idea of the story behind Casey Jr and Alice and Ariel. Ariel rules though as Dumbo movie has 2 rides, Pinocchio has a restaurant and ride, Alice has two rides but Ariel will have 2 rides and a restaurant. Finding Nemo has Crush Talk and the subs. Lots of learning from the videos so that you will know what is what.

Rent if you can "Third Man on the Mountain" to see the movie that inspired the Matterhorn.

Thanks for the info, I'll go check out that thread on the community board.

WOW, I never knew the Matterhorn was based on a movie. I am on a mission to find that movie.

Thanks for the info on Mr. Toads Wild ride, I have to find that movie too, have not seen that one.

Luckily I have Song of the South. Thankfully to someone here on the DIS years ago there was a link to someone who had DVD's of it. Got to love the DIS!

What attraction has Roger Rabbit themes?

Oh, so much to learn about DLR!

I 2nd those mentioned - it was great for the kids bc I would quiz them & then when we got there they'd see the similarities or we would comment on the characters....I'm a Disney Trivia freak - maybe they got sick of me....but I had fun w/ it! :rolleyes1

What was funny is DL was a surprise last time (they thought we were driving to the Grand Canyon) & every DVD/coloring page/game/clothing/etc was Disney based. They still didn't catch on!!;)

Toontown and Roger Rabbit ride are from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
Big Thunder Ranch has a copy of the Ponderosa from Bonanza.
Jungle Cruise is loosely based on the Nature Series of shorts by Disney.
Treehouse was originally the movie Swiss Family Robinson then changed to Tarzan.
Tower of Terror is based on Rod Serling's series Twilight Zone.
Have fun and keep your tentacles, antlers and arms in the vehicle at all times.

Wow, nobody said Pirates of the Caribbean. Almost every scene in the first one has something to do with the ride, you notice that when you watch it every night for about 3 months. Haha. Also The Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy, Toy Story, Aladdin for the Aladdin show, Monsters Inc., A Bugs Life, there's too many.

Just for fun, here's some 'food for thought':

Tinker Bell (Pixie Hollow, fireworks)
The Muppet Movie (Muppet*Vision 3D)
Tarzan (Tarzan's Treehouse)
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (Mr. Toad's Wild Ride)
Honey I Shrunk the Kids (HISTA)
The Sword in the Stone
Pirates of the Caribbean
Star Wars (Star Tours, Jedi Training Academy)
Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark
Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (RRCTS)

Edited To Add:

For Fantasmic:

Fantasia (Sorcerer Mickey, Chernabog)
The Jungle Book (Kaa the python)
Walt Disney Treasures: Mickey Mouse in Black and White (Steamboat Willie)

For "The Three Little Pigs" in Storybook Land Canal Boats:

Walt Disney Treasures: Silly Symphonies

Have a fun trip!
